Dooh! need help with stripped speed nuts on front hood emblem
So there I was thinking, I finally better swap out my crest for a new one...got my 8mm driver out and unscrewed it like heck and nothing...the speed nuts just spin...now the crest is slightly loose and can't tighten it
please, any suggestions?! thanks Roger Last edited by prairiedawgshoo; 04-26-2015 at 07:12 PM.. |

grab it with a needle nose and pull while turning. install new emblem with new nuts, buy an extra nut as I stripped one installing the new emblem, they are not robust.

Awful dilemma. You may have to cut it to avoid damaging the badge or car.
I'd keep trying the pull and turn method. EDIT::: Cut the speed nut, not the pin. (Dremel?)

Slide a plastic body interior trim removal tool under the emblem and apply upward pressure as you turn the nut slowly.

At this point, I'm okay with losing the badge...I've got another one...what would I need to cut?
thanks |

Try splitting the nut after you cut it on two opposing sides.
If it's original I'd try really hard to keep the badge intact.

+1 wedge something soft under the badge to create some tension for the speed nut to grab onto.
When you are ready to install, learn your lesson and take it easy, the rubber washer will squeeze out if you torque too much, ask me how I know.
