How does it run compared to the carbs? Realize it probably hasn't been really driven yet.

Was thinking about doing a light backdate. Just front and rear bumpers, and I get the ducktail. Might look weird with the whale tail on there.

Anyway, when you take off the stock steel bumpers and bumperettes (in the rear) and replace with the fiberglass pieces, what goes in behind it for crash protection?

The stock bumpers are aluminum - and yes, when you convert to fiberglass you lose quite a bit of crash worthiness. Most fiberglass bumpers have very little material behind. When I did mine I layered kevlar that tied into the crash tubes - probably minimally better than fiberglass

I stand corrected on the type of metal the bumpers are made of... Porsche would never use such a pedestrian overweight metal of that type. What was I thinking? :)

Ok, I guess that project is off the table... As much as I LOVE the look, not sure I would be comfortable having zero crash protection.

I got tapped a few months ago by some goofy woman playing on her phone and not paying attention. Light turned green, went to go, truck in front spilled some stuff out of the bed (d-bag), I hit the brakes to avoid the debris, she tapped me. Probably 5mph. Maybe less. Zero damage. Not even a scuff. I have to think that with f-glass bumpers, that would have been a lot worse. Forget about 25mph....

So disappointing as I'm just enamored with those backdated cars.

you can backdate with steel pretty easily.

but you lose the 5mph bumpers either way...

mine basically has nothing behind the fiberglass. Shock tubes and everything were pulled to lose the weight.

Got the car back from EFI install. The darn electrical portion of the ignition failed on me. Man the top screw to get this off is a MOFO.Here is the part # and part if ever needed. I ended up leaving the top screw out on install, just tightened the bottom screw real good.

Such an awesome looking car!

Nippy, I replaced this part in my car and it was probably the most frustrating R&R I have ever done on my car! If you ever do this, remove your seat. Makes it slightly easier. I recommend you eventually put the top screw in for peace of mind.

Also, for anyone planning on doing this repair, I recommend removing the entire ignition module. Seems like more of a PITA but you will be thankful in the long run rather than laying on your back at an awkward angle trying to loosen and tighten those screws while it is inside the car. I found out the hard way.

Hi Torque starter came in today from our host. Should be able to breath on the key and the car will start.
