new tires coming!
|
The car just got new Continental Extreme Contact tires from Tirerack installed on Thursday 1/23/20. I have not put the "CONTINENTAL" lettering back on the tires as of yet.

I so often: I cannot afford it :-(
|
STEAL OF A DEAL IF ANYONE THINKS OTHERWISE...!!!
That is why builds like this take several YEARS to do RIGHT...!! ME too = I wish I could afford this car... A dream car in real life form... Best of luck with the sale...!! Bob |
I'll take the seats and the paint.

Beautiful build and great story as well.
A buddy sent me the link to your thread. I went through the whole thing (I’m retired). Post 313 caught my eye. It’s a picture of my 2017 Miami Blue 991 C4S taken at Snowbasin near my home. |
Funny enough I'm still actively working on this cars finishing touches. Plush black carpet kit coming along. Just waiting on my 2 side piece "button snaps" that were long removed. How about that 935 D Zug bar now? Really look's great up front. The front trunk not being painted really bothered me, but Im hoping a nicely installed carpet kit will at least dress it up a bit and hide the "eyesore". Wanting to get the hood hinges painted as well. More to come!

4K plus miles in 7 months and Mike Bruns motor just seems to get better. Been driving the heck out of it on the back roads of Florida. With the virus going around, not much traffic. I can say that with my foot pinned in 4th gear at 7200 RPMs (almost red line), the car is at 140MPH and puling like a freight train. I haven't had the balls to take my hand off the wheel and shift into 5th yet. The sound at 100-140MPH with no sound deadening or insulation whatsoever is just incredible. I will try to make a GoPro video soon and try and capture it. The car is a monster, kept right up with a brand new 2020 992 4S the other day. He was starting to pull a bit but I was right on him with a 150LB passenger in my car. He was alone. I think If I was alone, I could have stayed right with him. We came upon some traffic and both had to back off. Man these old cars are AMAZING!

Nice car
|
As promised, roads empty with a few spotters up ahead. In Mexico of course. Never even went to 5th gear.

Sooo kuhl...
That’s the smoothest and fastest I have gone in a 911...! Thx nippy |
What is wrong with 5th ?
|
it goes faster than 4th!...
|
I havent found the courage to remove my hand from the wheel to shift at 140MPH/7200 rpms. Next time, I may bring my helmet and my HANS device seeing that im harnessed into the seat. I suppose I could just go into 5th a bit earlier and go for it.
* Edit that, just got back from the same place w/out another person AKA "camera holder" in the car. Shifted into 5th early and held the pedal down. Hit 160MPH at around 6800RPM. Still had some to go but didn't want to push my luck. Could definitely feel the lack of aero on the car. This was my first pass holding the camera and steering wheel at the same time. Came up just shy of 160. On the second pass I set the camera down and hit 160MPH easily before letting off. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/g6Ft_Is2w0U" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Just playing... but it is good for a wide body car to go that fast, I bet it would pull 175 in 5th.

A few pics from my drive last night. Beautiful night here in the Tampa bay area.

Well it saddens me to say the blue car is no longer my car. I said at the beginning of this thread that this would be my "forever" car and I meant it. However, life showed up and circumstances forced me to consider otherwise. Luckily with the virus scare of the past few months, the traffic died down in my area and I was able to really spend some time in the car. I think I put 1200 miles on it in the past 2 weeks including a few top speed runs in which I hit 160MPH. The fastest I have ever been in an air cooled 911.
I want to thank everybody who helped this build become a reality. Jason at Heritage Motorcar restoration for the paint & body. He also did allot of the interior work. Speed Syndicate for the motor install and running al the lines while making it look show worthy but functional. Last but not least Mike Bruns the engine man. The car left me with around 4500 miles on the new engine and it felt like it was getting stronger as time went on. Mike is a treasure to the air cooled 911 community and car community as a whole. I told him I wish I could run a USB cable from his brain and download all that info he has up there directly into my brain or a computer hard drive. Seriously, if you want a engine done and you want it right the first time, CALL MIKE BRUNS! Thanks William Knight as well for guidance on a few things with the build including the cheap but great header/muffler set up. I loved that car and I wish I could keep it forever but truth be told it drained my wallet pretty good building it to the level I did. I held onto it as long as I possibly could. In the end, somebody made me a cash and trade deal that I couldn't refuse. I got a nice sized check for the dwindling bank account and a modern day lightweight 6 speed manual Porsche with 375HP/309TQ. Clean and free with no taxes! I must admit A/C in Florida plus a nice Alpine radio is a nice change. Im still getting used to having 6 speeds to work with and a loud sport exhaust at the touch of a button. The fact that I can drop the top is super cool as well. Its my first convertible car ever. It wont replace the raw torque monster or WOW factor that the Miami blue car was but it will do. Im really enjoying the new car. Thanks everybody for going along for the ride with me, It was a blast. Cheers! The last picture I took of the car, couldn't look better! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586013548.JPG The new to me 2016 Spyder 1 owner 8K miles. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586013665.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586013665.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586017375.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586014327.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586013665.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1586013665.JPG |
