Webbs SS airbox had this pop valve which had different springs for turbo applications.

I am trying to get these SS airbox's made again, so far no luck I have been keeping my eye open for used ones, or I may make my own.

Recurving distributor

I'm ready to install my BAE kit as soon as I re-curve my distributor. I did this many times on my old GM hot rods by simply using different springs on the centrifual advance weights.

Can someone point me to a similar solution for my '77 911, or a reputable shop where I can send it to be re-curved?

By the way, I'm getting A LOT of bashing from Rennlist members for this turbo. They all say it is going to blow up and not to spend much money because I will need it later for repairs.

Can I get a show of hands to count how many people have successfully added aftermarket turbo-chargers on their '70s or '80s 911?

i'm sure you'll get a bunch of people who ahve did it themsleves, however i know of two non-pelicans who have doen it and they are still running strong (2 years now and the other is just approaching the two year mark)

both gained considerable power, with a safe amount of boost (5-7lbs).

cheers
Nick

Thads car has been going strong for as long as most stock engines.
Ignore them they are wrong just keep within the boost limits and add the micro fueler CSV if you wish to push it up a little.

My car had the BAE kit since 77 and ran fine until I had to rebuild it when I bought it at110,000 miles. Now with the EFI it runs real good

Thanks for the votes of confidence. I won't insult the Rennlisters by quoting them, but turbos don't seem to be their thing.

The Rennlist 928 forum, on the other hand, loves to hear about all the guys who add boost to their "Sharks."

The public replies are mostly rationalizations about why it would be smarter to simply get a bigger engine or a newer Porsche if I want more power.

In retrospect, it may have been somewhat insensitive of me to post a thread about adding a turbo in the 911 forum amidst complaints about being out-accelerated by minivans, etc.

be as insensitive as you want. You post, and even put a poll on there, asking for opinions, and talk of replies over here two days later? You even have more posts over there. We're all on the same side. But I guess as long as a pelican is better than a rennlist then It's all good?
whatever

It is just apparent that this is the appropriate forum for discussing my 911 once I venture into the world of turbocharging. I am very active on the Rennlist 928 forum, but I should probably avoid talking about boost with the 911 guys.

Thanks to those who confirmed that thermo-nuclear disaster did not result from adding a turbo kit to an mid-year 911.

Who can recurve my distributor?
Is there a kit I can buy, or a set of instructions specific to Porsche?

Years ago I just bought different spings for the centrifugal weights for GM cars.

David:
Any updates on that airbox you posted? That is a fine unit. I may build one over the winter, along with the intercooler.
My engine is getting assembled this weekend. I'm still thinking about fuel enrichment; maybe a 930 WUR for the short term. I'll crank up my post on the install as soon as I get working in earnest. Gotta find some exhaust paint so it all looks good. I'm going to see how the A/F ratios look before I think about recurve in the distributor.

Pat, call Henry at Supertec he has a SS box if your interested.
I ended up going with a 930 intake with a euro fuel distributor,
I am not going to use the WUR for enrichment, I am still going to use the CSV and hobbs switch set at 8lbs. If you ever watched one of those CSV's piss gas you would understand why(run rich on boost a good thing)
The WUR that is on my 930 intake uses a ECU Lambia sensor to work properly so I am going without it.
There is nothing wrong with the SC airbox system they work great and I would still be using mine if wasn't in a 914. Even after lowering the engine I had to remove the front edge of the engine lid and webbing from the rear of the trunk lid. It was more of a fitment issue than a performance one.
The SC intake runners are way larger than the 930's and you cant port out the stock insulators to match the large ports in the SC heads as they are to thin.
If I can get the 930 intake system to work right, I may have my 79 SC intake for sale soon including the BAE boots and the rest of the BAE plumbing that I will no longer need.

My advice to you is throw a hobbs switch and a CSV on your setup and your good to go, you will spend more money and tons of time trying to figure out if the 930 WUR is working and setup properly ( FYI decreasing the pressure of the WUR richen's up the mixture increasing leans it.)
