eBay Turbo on 1984 911?

It looks like a SC turbo install. Throttle Boot(1) appears to be silicone BAE, Inlet/Outlet Pipes OK, Turbo unknown. No fuel enrichment. Hoses not routed nicely. Overall - pretty ugly. But if I was building one, those pipes would be useful as would the silicone boot(s)?

I like the overall car layout, so it might be an interesting project. I'm having trouble with the vehicle ID # He says it's european, but the ID #'s don't quite add up. It's got 93 in the location that says it's a 930. Someone with more knowledge then I have would have to noodle that one a bit. Thanks for the input.

Sure looks like an SC motor to me. A 1984 911 should be a Carrera w/ 3.2 motor.

Car back

Car delivered back today from Kelly-Moss in Madison with new Sachs Power Clutch and rebuilt 915. I can't believe the old clutch was still alive. See earlier photo.

Reassembled turbo components. Photo shows single stage fuel enrichment on turbo outlet pipe. 3.0# N.O. pressure switch activates the CSV. Running too rich right now under boost. Got to find a smaller injector hopefully without having to fool with banjo connections. Also have not hooked up new boost controller.

Fan and housing scheduled for some powder paint as are the inlet and outlet turbo pipes. Need to make decison on installing a Bailey or Forge type diverter valve across these pipes to vent pressure when shifting and off throttle.

tsuter, GREAT! Glad you got the car back. You'll have to do some "home dyno" runs and let us know what kind of HP one will get form 3-6 PSI boost.

Any chance you'll make it to the Chicago fun run in the SC?

Possiblly if its a couple weeks out. I am removing the fan and housing this weekend and the pipes for painting. Got a new air box as well to go in and I saw that the new one has internal fuel runners right to the six intakes from the CSV port. That is very interesting as the old CSV just opened into the main cavity.
So now I'm considering using the primary CSV as my fuel enrichment injector instead of the current one piggy backed on the turbo outlet pipe. Still activate it at 3.0# with the same pressure switch. Without an enriched mixture up in the turbo outlet pipe it vastly simplifies the install of a diverter valve and the boost control with less fuel worries.

You got a later style airbox (80+ I believe). I thought about OEM CSV (mentioned it in rfng's thread I think), but if you look at this photo, there is air that is pulled through the CSV manifold. I have to think about this some more, but when you are not cranking the motor to start it, will the there be air moving through the manifold? How will that affect the CSV effectiveness?

Good point. Also the CSV is grounded through the Thermotime switch with power from the starter circuit. So I can't just switch power to it (which is easy), I will have to ground it also. Different switch - DP type.
Lots of fun!!

Fan and Housing Out

Got the fan, alternator and housing out this AM. About -16C or 4F for you fair weather boys. Had to use a 100watt lamp just to stay warm. Fan and housing to go to All-Color in Oregon, WI for powder coating and it looks like I can shoot the turbo inlet and outlet pipes myself. Those are gonna be gold.

25 years of dust in there but no oil mess, bird nests or dead rats!

Turbo inlet pipe has been shot with gold. Oulet pipe prepped but not yet shot and throttle body and air sensor plate cover silicone bonnets ready in red. No the fan isn't broke - its just the angle of the picture.

tsuter,

Thanks for all the pictures and dialog on your SC Turbo. I sent you an e-mail a few weeks ago and was delighted to hear that you were in WI. I am in Cedar Falls Iowa were there are, to my knowledge, only one other P car. Perhaps, I can get over to see you this summer to learn first hand about your Turbo system. I hope to, with time, modify my 82SC coupe with a turbo. At this point I am just learning.

Where and when is the get together in Chicago? I am planning to attend the Tweak's event in June. Any chance that you would be there?

Thanks for sharing all of the information! Talk about an unsuspecting SC. I like the way you did all the work and have it looking so stock.

Hopefully you can make it to a Chicago event or we can plan a run through the Wisconsin countryside to meet you and see the car up close.

Great work!

Powder painter told me NLT Mar 21 for the fan etc. Right now I cannot find a Bosch CSV P/N 0 280 170 018 or 017. Or even pictures of any with a short pintle and a fuel line barb connector - not banjo bolt - that I could use. P/n 0 280 170 010 tried and failed - started leaking - could just be a bad CSV or it can't handle 70PSI.
So looks like 2-3 weeks to be back running again.
Thad

Reinstalled Turbo I/O

Got the turbo inlet and outlet pipes reinstalled today in their new gold color.

Also decided to relocate the wastegate control pressure line from its previous location up to near the fuel enrichment injector and pressure switch for easier access and plumbing to the boost controller. Lots of chasing around to find the appropriate CSV for fuel enrichment. Ended up selecting a 914 2.0L CSV BOSCH 0 280 170 015.

This ain't your Daddy's 911!!!!

I hope you mean decide WHICH valve to use...not IF you are going to do it. I still haven't been convinced about the big-buck polished toys after several years... why not a pair of the factory Bosch 710N units, right at the compressor.

I ordered a Bosch 0 280 142 108. Porsche P/N is 993 110 337 50 It was about $45 so we'll see what it looks like when it gets here. The P/N was for a 930 I believe. Due to the fuel enrichment set up, I think it has to be a true diverter valve - not a BOV so I will need to route Turbo Outlet back to Turbo Inlet when it vents.
I got a Bailey DV on my VW NB with about 240TQ and 220HP!

If you want one of those bosch units, I have one you can have. I believe its the same. Just e-mail me your address and I will mail it to you. I'm guessing that its the same plastic diverter valve your taking about. They are used in numberous cars. Black looks like an L with a cylinder where the lines connect. I pretty sure its buried somewhere in the garage.

I really don't think the problem with the lag will be fixed with the valve.

Finally got back my fan from Merijons Powder Painting in Stanhope NJ. A good job and they did not break off a blade like the last painter.
Just getting things reassembled.

Anyone paint the air diverter?

Should be installed and running this weekend.

Fan and alternator reinstalled this AM. Now if I could only find a CSV that doesn't leak at system pressure of 70lbs for the supplemental enrichment setup. They must not make these like they used to. I have three different CSVs and they all leak.
