It took about 3 hrs to fabricate the aluminum plate with countersunk screws which hold to the plastic insert that was originally there to hold the A/C knobs. I had to measure everything exact so there is enough room for the dual sweep EGT gauge which is to go underneath the boost gauge. All this upgrading is really pulling me away from the real project im presently doing. Maybe you seen these posts
Project Turbo 69` In The Making. Suggestions Welcome Project turbo 69` UPDATE I really need to get back on that one. But since the kits were aquired in a package deal and tsuter says it works well I just couldnt resist from digging right in. Plus the white car needed a new tranny and I had a fresh 911S unit on hand(also from the package deal). Do I want to do another kit ? Hell no. Kurt Williams

Did you use the idiot light pressure sender for an oil source for the turbo?
I ordered a new sender, vent gasket, and new intake pipe gaskets from pelican, supposed to be here today. Guess I'll be dropping the engine tomorrow to get at the sender. |

This was posted by tsuter on the last page: I have oil fed tensioners and I didn't use the passenger side feed for the turbo supply and don't reccommend it. You didn't see that idea in this post. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Oil%20Supply.JPG BTW, do you check your emails? I sent you one through your Pelican profile. jurgen |

I saw the part where tsuter did not recommend to use the oil fed tensioner line like PJV911 was planning to do, I saw in his pictures that he did use the idiot light sender. I was wondering what everyone else did. There are several of these kits installed on members cars here.
Basically I'm hoping someone here will talk me out of dropping the motor but I'm afraid it aint gonna happen. I saw your e-mail late last night but didn't open it yet, (along with about 100 rennlist e-mails, but it was beddy-by time) I'll check it out this afternoon. Did it say that I hit the lottery or something? ![]() |

Well ???????? Its time to pull the motor out again. The clutch(which has less than 3k on it) slips in all but first gear(only because of lack of traction). Im going to send a core clutch disk to my clutch guy in cali(bryan at clutch specialties) to have him make me a disk with better grip. BTW the boost goes to .5 bar and gets there @2100-2300rpm which is quite fast considering my low gearing. Im still very happy with the kit anyways and should have known the clutch wouldnt hold the extra hp . Live and learn I guess.

Well here it is: FABSPEED stainless steel dual outlet 4.5" rolled tip 930 muffler. Arrived Monday.
![]() This baby is really a single right side outlet with a separate outlet for the wastegate on the left. The lower rear valence will be cut back on the right for the passenger side outlet and the flange will be modified for the turbo. ![]() You can roll a tennis ball through this sucker! I'm not kidding.

Tsuter, that muffler is waaaay too nice. You're teasing me.
My turbo-ized engine is ready to re-install, but I'm stuck working 14 hour night shifts for the next consecutive 35 days, I hate that. Hay, where did you get your hobbs switches, and about how much did you pay for them? TIA |

I am considering purchasing a used bae turbo kit for my 79 sc engine that is in my 914. I know that I will have to get creative in the fabrication of the plumbing
but would rather pursue external modifications than internal, you guys are close to getting this thing figured out as i have been watching this thread for some time. I think an intercooler may be involved in the install. I am removing the engine to checkout the condition and go over the head studs, i know this engine was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago an runs very good, did you have to convert head studs to divlar or steel to accommodate the turbo.

I was contemplating tearing the engine down and changing the studs to steel but I decided to get it running before I went on this weird work schedule and tear it down later this year. I didn't make the schedule so I may still change the studs before re-installing the engine.
BTW, all early 930 turbos had dilivar studs top and bottom, not steel. |

I ran across the rebuild info from the seller of my engine Engine is a 79. Full rebuild. Engine had 104k miles when rebuilt. Items replaced include head studs, carrera tensioners, all bearings,_gaskets, oil return tubes, rod bolts and nuts, rings, cams, oil switches for gauges, coil, distributor, ignition wires and many other little parts. It has aboout 45,000 miles on it now so I think I can assume the engine is very sound. What would you consider a good price for a complete used bae kit.

The only key BAE parts are the turbo inlet and outlet pipes and the silicone bonnets as you cannot get them anywhere. That is worth maybe $300-500. You can use any turbo T04B or T04E that you want or the BAE Rayjay. Another $300-$1000 for rebuilt turbo. Wastegate Tialco a couple hundred, Exhaust/muffler - the Bae one was steel and lasts but not so good. I'm fabricating a Fabspeed stainless steel 930 to fit right now. It isn't cheap.
The BAE kit was about $1700 when it was originally sold. Addon stuff - fuel enrichment, MBC, pressure switch pretty cheap. switches: http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/hss/hobbsparts/products/pressureSwitches.asp But I don't remember where I got mine. Probably NLA but any screw type NO at 2-3psi should be fine to trigger the enrichment. You don't need an intercooler for boost under 8-9Psi and enrichment. I am using the 911 CSV for supplemental enrichment and it is performing well.

To adapt the pieces in the 914 would I be able to use silicone or rubber hoses for my runs from the rear of the car where the turbo and exhaust will be mounted, or do you think I will need piping.

I havr silicone reducer type connectors and elbows off the turbo compressor inlet and outlet so I don't see why not.
Maybe you would get some boost drop over a long large diameter silicone runner like in an intercooler (1-2 psi) and it would need to be supported somehow. http://www.turboengineering.com/miscellaneous_accessories/silicone_hose.html

Back from the welder today with the new custom Fabspeed 930 muffler bolted on my SC:
Passenger side valence cut back for Fabspeed 4.5# outlet. ![]() Wastegate on the left side in the stock muffler outlet position (well sort of ![]() ![]() Wastegate oulet from Fabspeed was fairly large so it needed a support as did the muffler itself. ![]()

Better shot of the wastegate outlet support bracket welded on the Y pipe to the turbo.
![]() Here is the custom muffler support arm. Two bolts hold it in the stock position but the arm extends towards the passenger side with slots for the muffler straps (stock). ![]()
