Need trans help

Driving along normal, popped out of second, (never done this, good 915 out of an 82sc)put it in third and Kaplooie. Moving slow when it happened, maybe not to much damage??. Part of a syc. and some dog teeth fell out from the lower cover. Pulled the rear cover off and found the big nut laying as you see it. Not a trans guy, not sure what to do, esp. after reading the 9 part tut. John, can I send it to you? Or someone in the Memphis area?

Is this a trick question?
That thing needs a rebuild.

Don... Hopefully you lucked out by paying attention and stopping sooner rather than later.

I had to stop at once. Coasted to a stop along a straight stretch of hwy 10 miles from home. Towed it home behind my truck with a tow strap. I see no damage to any big gears, just a lot of little parts.

That's what it looked like, I just wasn't sure why it was inside your gearbox.

The different colored components signs of prior replacement work ?

I have owned this trans many yrs, it has never been apart as far as I can tell. I read in P Zimermans tutorial that the nut being loose is common.
