Basically I agree, specifically soldering the crimped connection with the wire/resistor-lead. Only crimping the resistor lead will not work. Bend the resistor leads about 1/8" from the point where they leave the resistor.
Isn't it possible to solder the resistor in the connector between the connector crimp contacts? That would be the best solution. And use a soldering iron with not too much heat. A 30/50 Watt iron is perfect for this project. Otto |

Be sure to add Heat shrink or wire insulation slid onto the resistor leads to insulate them.
Don't cut the resistor wires.

Make it match your weatherpack install. Try mounting it in a weatherpack fuse holder. Plug in a fuse, break the fuse plastic away to expose the leads, clip the leads to a good length and use them as terminals. Solder the resistor across the leads. Put the fuse holder wires in the crimps with the other wires.

Just make sure the contact is sized to accommodate both wires.

Nice alternative! And don't forget to document the project for your archive. After some years you might have forgotten the resistor, hidden in the fuse holder. Also, the next owner of your car will be grateful for some notes.
