Adjusting (mixture) on the CIS with the CO analyzer
I could not find anything on the Tech Notes regarding Mixture adjustment with a CO meter at the exhaust, so I could use some advise on the procedure.
My question is, whether the adjustment is done on cold start or during operating temperature or both? And just how far into the muffler do you want the probe ![]() ![]() For those familiar with the procedure, please advise. Thanks Bob 1973.5T/first CIS |

post a pic of your probe. (the analyzer probe).
it just needs to go in enough to get nothing but exhaust, adjust it hot. if you let it idle for a long time, drive it after making the adjustment then come back and check it again. I don't know what kind you have but there may be a reading it should have with it not in the exhaust, kind of like a calibration.

Hopefully it will be a Gunson Analyzer of which I know nothing about.

Drive the car until full operating temperature is reached. Set the idle speed. Connect the tester according to the instructions for the tester. Remove the plug and adjust the CO to 1.5-2.0. Remove the tool and blip the throttle and re-check the CO. The CO is always set from lean to rich, so if it is too rich, adjust it too far lean, then back rich. Clockwise on the tool is rich. Very small movements of the tool are used. Never adjust it more than a half turn from where it started, in total.

Don't forget to adjust your hand throttle! HOT idle should go to about 3800 rpm with the handle all the way up. Adjustment is done through a hole in the tunnel just left of the handbrake. A small cylinder with a set screw rides on the throttle rod that passes through the tunnel, adjust as necessary by loosening the set screw and moving the cylinder as needed.

Download the Gunson operation docs from the net. You need to run the tester in free air for 20 minutes at a 2.0 setting. There is also a great Gunson youtube by Gunson out there that goes through everything.
