Another TDC Distributor removal question

Hi Guys,

So I have removed my fan and shroud and sent them off, I now need to remove my distributor. I have lined up the rotor button to be in line with the notch on the dizzy casting. As I can't line up my flywheel pully notch to the shroud's TDC mark, is it enough to just have the button lined up? Am I good to pull the distributor? I have photographed it and the notch on the pulley is at the top as best as I can tell.

Thanks!!

Spence, that will work just fine.

A couple of things worth mentioning - it will take a fair amount of force to pull the distributor out of the hole (), since the oil seal on the shaft fits very snugly in the bore (another , right!), and if you put some precise index marks on the body of the distributor and the case, you will surprise yourself at how close, or perfect, your advanced timing is when you re-assemble and check with a timing light (assuming it's good prior to removal).

PS - the fan housing's TDC mark is aligned with the case seam.

Spence,

Don't sweat it too much. Like the others have stated, if you're attending to the marks, you'll be just fine.

I was really sweating it when I reassembled my 3.2 and everything turned out just fine.

Good luck!

note how the rotor will turn when you remove the dsit. you will have to offset the rotor when installing so as it goes in the rotor will turn to line back up.

VERY important: put a clean rag in the dist hole!!!

even if you lose all the orientation it's not a big deal to return it to TDC #1 compression
