There's actually been quite a bit going with the car, but very sporadic and out of order. The car is finally with my good friend Willy who's an amazing painter. He can do custom stuff and full restorations. I honestly cant say enough good things about the guy. It's now completely gutted. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785531.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785531.jpg The engine compartment has been stripped. Danny at Sleeper's welded in Tarrett shock tower reinforcements, as we'll be running coilovers. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785690.jpg The sunroof was bugging me, and all that garbage weighs a bunch, so we we plugged it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510785723.jpg |
I really like to see young guys working on aircooled 911's...lots of the old guys are or have retired...
Those bearings look good...how many miles on the lump? 3.0's have a deserved bottom end longevity rep. I'd delete my sunroof in a NY minute too..... |

My 930-16 had good bearings at 230K when I traded it out for a 930-10. Was that tig or mig on the sunroof delete? That looks like it came out without any warping. |

My buddy tore his 3.0 down a couple months ago with 210k and the bearings were fine too. It's crazy. |

As to the bottom end that is crazy good. |
Maybe this will help Reiver
I came up with about 33lbs on my semi accurate scale when I weighed the entire cassette, motor, rails, pretty much everything from the sunroof. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510860281.jpg |
Ryan,
Make sure to have the shock tower/bridge member welded at the corners where it meets the unibody structure. You need to beef up that joint with plate steel because it wants to pull away from the longitudinal structure. Right now you're only reinforcing the top of the damper "tubes" with those Tarett gussets, which basically prevent the coilover from punching through. This link has some good info in it and notice the link in my post where BarryJB shared some good pictures of the damage that coilovers can do to the bridge member. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/794363-rear-shock-tower-reinforcement.html#post7886086 |

Quick update. I sent the cylinders to Gary at Torque Power Engines to have them checked and honed. Good to go! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510961339.jpg |
More progress...

The amount of wiring is shocking, isn’t it?
Please don’t throw that away. There’s a lot of useful plugs and terminals and other stuff people can use |
