Thanks, and a nagging question
Thanks for the encouraging words. I’ll pass them along to Richard who is really responsible for the quality of work. I too am impressed with his attention to detail and I just follow his suggestions for the most part.
Something that’s troubled me for a while now are the flares. When I originally started the project, it was to build an “ST” looking car which I really like. The flares were purchased (I believe from a manufacturer in Portugal) and installed by the previous fabricator I had working on the car. If you’ve read past posts you will remember that I wasn’t happy with the work he did, and Richard has had to replace or redo everything he touched except the flares. I’ve asked him many times for the exact specs or details on the flares but he wouldn’t provide them to me for whatever reason. Anyway, I’m trying to determine exactly what profile they are but with my level of knowledge about Porsche flares it’s impossible. Can any of you shed some light on them? Are they simple turbo flares, or something else? |

Hi Todd...As you may know, the 'ST's had 9" on both the front and the rear.
In 1974, the RSR/IROC or short hooded car, had 9" flares on the front, with 11" on the rear.. The 930's have the same size. Maybe you could post your measurements from your inner body to your outer flares for those with 930's to help you out ay. Just a suggestion

![]() Thanks for the reply, but can anyone tell by looking at the pictures of my car what flares were actually installed? Is there any way of measuring them to find out? I was told the flares installed were for a 72 ST style body. |

Hey Todd I’m sure you read that most st flares profiles differed slightly. That link is a great reference for how the widths differ from flare to flare. My whole rear quarters are glass with st flares that were made from a mold of a factory 72 st. Here’s some pics to compare.

HI Sebscst, thanks. After looking at yours I’m beginning to think that mine are Turbo flares, however they have the torsion bar holes and after reading some other threads I’m under the impression the Turbo flares didn’t have the holes? I see yours don’t have holes either- or did you glass them over?

I really don’t have any way of measuring them since all my suspension is removed

Thanks Sebcst. Richard got the rear fender measurement and he says it’s 14”. Unfortunately it’s still not a definitive answer looking at that fender chart. Seems to be closer to ST than turbo.
I was on the phone with Dave at TRE (super helpful guy) ordering a center fill kit and after looking at some pics I sent him he thinks they’re turbo flares. Another screw job by the previous fabricator I had working on the car. He charged me $3900 (CAD) for the 4 flares plus installation. Pretty much exactly what TRE would charge for proper ST flares (back when the CAD was stronger ![]() Anyway, the flares that are on it are staying- I’m already in too deep with the dollars so I’m going to just decide to really like them ![]() I guess it’s no longer my ST project. It’s now become a Heinz 57. After thinking about it for the last 24hrs my anger is slowly giving way to a sense of freedom to do whatever the hell I want now to the car. Onward.... ![]() |

For what it's worth, I think the 930 flare profile is waaay better-looking than the ST profile...

Colour codes on this Singer
Anyone know the codes for these three colours? They look like 70’s Porsche “Signal Yellow, Signal Orange”, and the “Turkish Green” but I’m not sure.

Colours
Here’s a spray out panel of the 1970 Porsche Signal Yellow (POR 114), and Signal Orange.
I’m guessing the green lettering on that Singer is POR 220 but not sure. I haven’t got a spray out panel of it yet. I may just go with the Signal yellow, black stripes on the rocker with he Porsche lettering. Anyone know where to get stencils for the lower door PORSCHE lettering? ![]() |

Late in the game changes...
Here’s the car now. Just fixing the fibreglass rear a bit before it’s ready to disassemble for the 50th time and get ready for paint. There’s only one minor problem. As ridiculous as it sounds, I want a RS or narrow body early 70’s car. ****. Yeah, no typo. I’m hitting the “pause” button on this car until I figure out my next move. Options are;
- Cut the rear quarters off and put SC or narrow body ones on. Change the front fenders to original early 70’s. Get an RS front and rear bumper set, or; - Sell the car and find another chassis to build or; - Sell the car and buy a 70’s car complete and just drive it. Console myself how much money I’ve wasted on this whole thing. - Sell the car and anything that reminds me of it and get on my motorcycle and go for a very long ride. Anyone have any ideas? Narrow body to trade? I have an aversion to rust.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey Todd. Here’s an idea. The car looks too good to start over. Why don’t you at least get it to roller status and if then it still doesn’t work for you then sell it. Would hate to see that car get cut up. Hot rods are doing good right now probably won’t be hard to sell.

Wow, great looking car so far. And wow, weird time of the project process to decide you don't actually like the car. Only trouble is if you sell now as is, as you have already said it will probably leave a fairly hefty sized whole in the funds already spent. That said, if it goes to the right person they are going to get a hell of a base to kick on from as everything you have done or had done to this point looks to be top notch. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Personally I like the fat look, think she's a stunner.
