Not particularly, depends on who made them how good a deal it is. Some suppliers offered these as a group buy for the about the same or less if memory serves correctly.

Ed,
Any pics of your bumpers fitted? Are these the cheaper ones you saw or are they the more expensive ones?

yes, that is my car. I bought the BW front end and bought the rear end used. It had the grill cut out, but I kinda like it like that. The muffler is an old 74 muffler that we converted to a sport muffler, then had hotcoated. It was supposed to be black, but they screwed it up.

Hey John, I kinda like the silver muffler, looks pretty sharp! I see you also got the rubber lip mounted. You'll have to share your secret on that one. I am still waiting for my front bumper and have yet to get my muffler done.

I had a conversation with Brad at BW Motorsport (618-622-2524) today, and he is ready to make the new CTR (Yellowbird) bumpers for any new orders. That new mold allows for a vertical lip for mounting of a rubber lip under the car, as well as replacing the fog light recess with a proper looking cooling duct.
Brian, “Ipapilot”, did a good job of describing the new part in his thread. RUF bumper update He can also glass in a rear deck grill in the front cooler opening for you, if you want. You’ll have to work that out with Brad. Brad can also make the other CTR bumper (with fog light recess) with the same lip as mentioned above. If you have an older one that was ordered, he may be able to glass in a lip for you, but that’s something you’ll have to work out with Brad. Shipping cost may be prohibitive. FINALLY! The group buy prices have been extended. Since Brad when to the trouble of making the new mold for the new part, he’ll extend the group buy price deadline until September 30th. |

Ultimate RUF...... long running stuff.....
OK, dammit, I'm tempted. I don't like the bellows bumpers and mine need respaying anyway. I'd also like to save the weight. The rear RUF-style bumper, perfect. And yet.... the RUF front bumper isn't quite right. Am I the only dissenter? I would say that the following items are the problem: Needs larger radius on upper and lower lip of the actual "bumper" section, closer to original profile and also reducing "flat-top" effect. Remove raised license plate moulding on centre of bumper Front bumper needs tighter radii on oil-cooler aperture... almost square ended. For me, these would tip the balance... call me fussy.... but anyone agree?

Brad's front cap is really close to looking just like the original Ruf unit. But if there's something you'd like done different? Call up Brad and tell him what you want. He's an outstanding guy to work with and does his best to make you happy. They're all made by hand when you order them, so it shouldn't be a big deal for Brad to make the mods you'd like.

They may be hand made, but they do use a mold... Brad will, however, go out of his way to do what he can for you!

I guess I should have said "made when you order them."
Meaning, he builds one when you order one. Not necessarily grabs one off the shelf and sends it on its way to you. If Brad can reshape the fog light openings to smooth them into brake duct openings, I imagine he coud reshape the center grille to Jon's liking. All you gotta do is ask! The curvature of the bumper ledge might be a little tougher. Probably would add some more resin to build it up and reshape it from there.

I think Jon is looking for something "too" custom. The BW bumper and any other MFG's bumper are replicas of the RUF part! Look at the pictures of the Yellowbird, and you'll see why they look like they do. My guess is that they wanted to give the appearance that the parts are "bumper caps." That is, that there is a bumper under there...so as to not offend an astute officer of the law...or maybe not.
If you want a smooth look get a C2 front bumper. The CTR bumpers are "CTR" bumpers. You wouldn't as for an IROC or RSR bumper, then ask that they make it look like a C2 bumper would you? Sorry if that sounds like I'm menstrating, but I'm not a politically correct player...don't even ask me to play office politics... ![]() Really, Brad is a very nice guy and has done an aweful lot for the group, and he made the cooler duct bumpers after a few of us expressed interest in them. BUT(!) it too is a replica of the authentic RUF bumper. Making a mold to smooth out the deck and features of the CTR bumper is probably not going to fly, since there is no historical significance to such a part, and Brad would likely only sell a couple. Not a smart business decision. There is another firm that makes hybrid f-glass bumper covers..I think the are Fiberwerks or something like that. Go to page 1 of this thread and compare the real RUf part tot he replicas..... Last edited by MotoSook; 09-15-2003 at 10:02 AM.. |

Souk, you kinda made my point a little better for me. My bumper took about 5-6 months to fabricate and a mold was made from it with the expectation that a reasonable number would be sold. While Brad is a great guy to talk too and work with, I wouldn't custom make a one off type bumper for someone unless I was getting paid quite well if I were him...

My mistake fellas. I thought Brad was taking the existing original bumper finished product and then reworking the ducts into it.
Apparently I don't know what the hell i'm talking about and I will pipe down! ![]()

I just spoke to Brad at BW. Sounds like a great guy. I had questions and doubts, and now I'm sold on the BW parts. Brad told me about his bumpers, and I honestly feel they are the best you can buy, excluding the original RUF parts.
I'm transferring funds to my play fund now, so I can join the club. ![]() I think anyone interested should call Brad. It will be worth the effort. Jürgen |

And you have less than 3 weeks before Brad discontinues the Group price. Ends Sept. 30th.

Yeah, yeah, you're right Souk. I'm being too fussy for the money!
I'm just seeing it from the styling purists viewpoint! I think the "bumper" CTR look IS much more appropriate for the car, 964 is too "heavy" looking. I think I will have to have some of these for my car anyway. I'm just suggesting that the original RUF design is just slightly wrong, for my taste. But hey, its near enough! I'm not complaining! It's a good price and a very worthwhile modification. I bet Porsche never liked attaching those hefty accordion bumpers to their lovely 911's! I can feel myself being pulled in.. I wasn't going to modify the car when I bought it... I've spent too much time lurking on this board.... help me! ![]()
