Tire & Fender Contact

So guys I have a dilemma, 87 930 RoW euro ride height. Went to RUF 10" in back with255/40-17 & 15mm spacer all good. Front is 9" 235/40-17 & get contact on fender & side wall over big compressions. All the research said no interference should happen. Any advice greatly appreciated. I prefer to stay away from fender rolling.

Dial in some negative camber up front. Pulls the tops of the tires in and gives you better handling to boot.

I suggest running 8x17 Ruf wheels up front on an '87 930. The 9x17 Ruf wheels are typically used on the fronts of the earlier 930's with the front spacers removed.

That's correct, assuming early style Ruf wheels

The 9s stick outboard 25mm more than the 8s, They would fit fine if the early 930 21mm spacer was removed

I'm using the 10" rears w/16mm Spacers and 9" Fronts without spacers on an early 930 and they fit fine.

Bill, you are certainly the wheel Guru on here. I have read many posts from you. I am confused however. The 9' with 235/40 are supposed to work. Here is a pick of my front hub. Should the spacer be removed? Can it be removed?

no, that is part of the hub, You'd have to retrofit to the '78-79 version of hub/hat to remove it.

Those appear to be the late 930 hubs which have a 21mm o/s built into them.

The older 930 hubs have a spacer but it is used because the same 7" wheels as were used on SC//Carrera were used on the 930s

'78-79 hub & removable spacer

Late 930('81 up) o/s hub

Bill, thanks for the input/knowledge. Greatly appreciated. This leaves me a bit disappointed. Question, can I dial in enough neg camber with stock strut tops to make the problem go away? Or would I need to go to elephant ones & or raise front ride height? Dif size tires? UUUUGGGGHHHHHH.

I had 225's and had tire rub. They do make 215's and 205's in a 16 inch at least...

Went down to a 215...

Only rubbed on one side... these cars aren't perfectly symmetrical...

Alexm -- How bad is your rubbing -- a lot of us with non-wide body 911s that run 16x7 fuchs up front end up with minor rubbing (the tire pulls out the inner fender lip when it makes contact with the lip, but not fender itself) -- rolling the inner fender lip in on the offending side solved this issue for me and left no visible evidence. Others have shaved the inner fender lip off to achieve the same effect. If you're not distorting the fender itself, a combination of fender rolling and negative camber could get you there

The narrowest tire normally used on a 9 is a 235/

Thanks for the input Darrin, Exactly as you stated, it is just ever so little bit on the lip & pulls it out juuuuust that little. I will try camber adjust first as it seems mine is 0 degrees. Then if worst scenario do the fender roll as much as it scares me.

camber helps

shaving the lip also provides a little more room than rolling, You can also stiffen the shocks and or springs or raise the car a tad

Not all 235s measure the same, some are narrower or wider and shoulder profiles can vary too
