I love these initiatives, of people with an age that wants to learn to tinker with their toys! It's good to keep learning! As far as time permits! You have availability in santa cruz de tenerife? I can pay you with a vacation in properties in the port of the cross or the teide hahahaha! Anyway. of illusions you live! Great work and great work!

baudett,

My wife likes to travel overseas for weeks or months. I get home sick when I am away on vacation doing nothing I like most (working in the garage or basement). We are leaving for Europe (London & Paris) in a few days with my grandchildren. In mid August to Sydney, Australia and might stay home to finish the engine rebuild for my son’s car. And on September back to Europe (Croatia & Serbia). And on late March 2020 back to Europe again Belgium & The Netherlands.

As soon as I get back home in April 2020, I have only a week to prepare for the Engine Rebuilding Classes. And spend the next several weeks with at least 40 Pelicanparts members tearing down and assembling 911 motors.

If you could provide a 3.0 or 3.2 engine to use for the Engine Rebuilding Class, I could fly and visit you. I will pay for our airfares (wife coming too) and need a place to stay for free.

Tony

Mike,

You are correct. You sent the info on 7/21 and added your name was added on the list already. I am way from home and thought otherwise. My mistake. I will post the new list.

Hi Tony,

I was reading this enormously interesting thread and because living in Belgium, did not really consider to fly over to the US to attend your classes. I would love to attend, but the distance seems to bother me...I know, not really an excuse...

but then I read somewhere in the last posts that you visit Belgium as well...you have done so much for this forum and its people (and I'm getting so much out of this forum as well) that I could offer you a visit to the best brewery in the world...
brewery tour followed by some tasters...

check out Duvel Moortgat |

just let me know if I need to set something up

Keep up this work, I'm impressed...and feeling sad not to have attended a class (yet)

The sessions will be Monday & Tuesday and Thursday & Friday. The venue will be held in 19401 (zip code) and exact address not yet finalized. Below are the schedules.

First session: April 13 & 14, 2020 (Monday & Tuesday)

Second session: April 16 & 17, 2020 (Thursday & Friday)

Third session: April 20 & 21, 2020 (Monday & Tuesday)

Fourth session: April 23 & 24, 2020 (Thursday & Friday)

Fifth session: April 27 & 28, 2020 ( Monday & Tuesday)

I like to limit the number of attendees per session from 10 to 8 this time. So participants would have more time and hands on experience tearing down and assembling the engine. Thanks.

Tony

Marc 718B called my attention to the typographical error for the Second session (April 16-17). The email I sent out to everyone on the list has the wrong dates (April 15-16). It should be April 16-17 (Thursday & Friday). Please be advised of the correct dates. Thanks.

I wasn’t exactly clear on when you need the deposit by

You said “I would need a refundable deposit of $100 and the balance paid by the end of November 2019”

Refundable deposit.........

Scott,

Not until I received a refundable deposit from the registrant would your seat be guaranteed. There are 34 officially in the list and it is only August. I only need 40 people like I had before. Right now, there are 8 people who sent their $100 deposit and they have the date and seat reserved.

Nobody is going to lose money. If for some reason you could not attend due to work schedule or personal reason, I will refund your money. However, if you notify me after January 31, 2020, you have to wait until I find a replacement. And refund your money.

Tony

ramonesfreak 08-06-2019 08:46 AM

Ok I misunderstood. So you need the deposit ASAP to reserve. I’ll get it out via PayPal in a couple days

ksluna 08-06-2019 11:53 AM

Tony I'd be interested in attending a mid to late 2020 class.

Do you have a website or FB page where one can view details? I haven't had time to read all 14 pages of this thread yet.

This is awesome. As a young person (26) who works in tech and pretty much zero mechanical background I've even gone as far to ask a local Porsche mechanic if I could apprentice under him for free after hours or on weekends just so I can learn. I would definitely pay to attend a class like this.

Is this class good for people of all skill levels?

Absolutely. I attended the class in April of 2018 and really enjoyed the hands on tear-down/rebuilding and getting to know other Pelicans. The class more than anything builds confidence to take on a future project. It can be considered one of the nice to have tools when doing a rebuild. You will work and follow along with Wayne Dempsey's How to rebuild and modify engine handbook so make sure you have that.

jimtweet 08-07-2019 01:35 PM

I had to take a minute and express my gratitude for what Tony is doing. I have been working on cars for the last 18 years, I have learned that nothing beats a hands on experience. No amount of reading, listening, whatever can top it.

The thing I love about Tony is he has a true hot rodders mentality. Always willing to help the other guys out and share his knowledge. I come across a lot of people in this industry and that is not always the case.

While I have built a few engines in my day, this was my first 911. I am not sure it would have been possible without his help.

To the guys who are taking the class, enjoy it, enjoy every minute of it. Take notes, joke, enjoy the guys you are with. These are the things that make me really love what I do.

ramonesfreak 08-07-2019 02:47 PM

Deposit sent via PayPal. If you didn’t get it please let me know. Thanks

In behalf of the participants we WELCOME you. Thank you.

Tony
