Overall a great session and you can read all the books you want but until you start disassembly there is usually some anxiety. This class helps you get over the fear of dismantling and gives some hands on opportunity for the trickier stuff like piston ring removal and splitting the case. Not to mention putting it all together. I feel way more confident with starting my rebuild now that I had this opportunity.
As for streaming or recording that would be best for its own effort. It was a very casual and enjoyable environment and any type of recording would have changed that great vibe. |

Schedule.......
Andrew, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Lunch break : 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM We will spend the first hour of the first day socializing and getting to know each other. By 9:30 AM, we will start the introduction to engine teardown. The next day, we will assemble the engine and do the cam timing, sprocket alignment, etc. Tony |

Since the class is full, are there any restrictions from bringing a step stool and pressing your face up against the glass from outside?

Not to bombard Tony with future interest, but having just gotten out of the 2nd round class, all I can say is thank you. Getting comfortable with the engine and removing all the sense of initial trepidation is simply spectacular. Thank you Tony for providing this immense service to the community. This is this forum and air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts at their very best.

Problem located and identified.......

After the class, I spent a couple of hours cleaning the room and preparing the engine for the next group today and tomorrow. After I removed the rockers for cylinder 4#, the engine rotated with no unwanted resistance. And installed all the intake and exhaust rockers back. Engine rotated smoothly. Problem solved. I will slightly change the work sequence for the engine rebuilding. Instead of doing the cam and valve timing at the end of the second day, I will have them at the first day instead when the participants are alert and focused including myself. I was struggling at the end of the second day to focus and concentrate on what I was doing and that probably contributed to some of the problems. Today is the 3rd batch and another grueling 2-day 12-hour work schedule. A break between group sessions would be ideal next time. Tony |

Many thanks to Tony (and let’s not forget Amore!) for putting this class on! I have a much better direction for what I want to do with my engine in the future and the insider tips (JB Weld on the oil pressure switch seam, anyone?) made the class more than worth it!

I want to add my thanks to Tony and Amore for being wonderful hosts to us lucky enough to be in the class. Tony and Amore were gracious to a fault and made us feel welcome and comfortable regardless of our experience. The Porsche/Pelican communities are lucky to have them as members.
Usually I would prefer a beating to driving on I-95, but the drive from Raleigh to PA and back was well worth the effort to attend. It seems to me that our class had a mix of experienced wrenches looking for tips, less experienced wrenches looking for encouragement, and some who simply wanted to learn more about their engines for personal knowledge (these guys seemed to have good relationships with indy shops). I thought the blend was great because everyone had some nuggets to contribute in the constant BS'ing going on as Tony kept us moving with disassembly on day one and reassembly on day two. We obviously skipped a lot of the physical steps, but everything was discussed. Regardless of if I ever do a rebuild or not for my car, I have a better understanding of what is involved and why the labor charges are what they are. I have even more respect now than before the class for those, professional or amateur, who have built one of these engines. Tony worked his butt off to make sure each of us took away something of value. I really appreciate that - THANK YOU, TONY. Sam |

I agree with you Sam, we had a great mix of 911 enthusiasts all approaching this from different aspects, but thanks to Tony I think al of our goals were achieved. I think you set a record in regards to the amount of time you had to hold a crankshaft while Tony provided a wealth of knowledge as to the proper manner to remove and replace the crank to avoid damage.
Tony and Amore should be recognized as 2 very special Porschephites, as they truly have gone above and beyond to share their knowledge and love of the breed with others. While I know there are probably many more who want the same opportunity to have this experience, i can tell you that they do it purely to give back to the community, and that it is both exhilarating but exhausting to Tony and family for both handling the class itself as well as the class setup and breakdown. Hopefully this is something he can continue to offer, and if that is the case I encourage you to take advantage! Regards, David

Yep, we had a nice mix of individuals in our class... and I am definitely glad I made the trip from Tampa. Hopefully, Tony gets a chance to recover after the back-to-back classes this week; I can only imagine how exhausting it is for him and his wife. Love the home-made Home Depot tools but there certainly are areas where I will be buying some Stomski tools! Hint: timing

As a participant this past w/end, I can attest to his energy and enthusiasm after back-to-back two day sessions. The hands-on opportunity is fantastic - no matter how many times one might read Wayne's book, there is nothing like getting a real-time education. And with 22 hands and eyes, it's amazing how quickly a motor can be torn down and re-built. We had a great group of trouble-shooters, who managed to sleuth a bit to solve annoying issues. My deep appreciation to Tony and to his wife Amor, who seems to have endless patience for her over-the-top Porsche enthusiast husband.
Jason PS - distance award is shared by brothers Saadat and Karim, who live in CA and flew in for the w/end.
