This was a non-functional unit used for mock up but now I have a real one to put in place (and now that these are available, I can share this!). There is a mount behind the dash that I designed that utilizes the factory tach rubber ring to hold it in place:

Here is the main layout page I designed (looks a lot better on the dash, the software makes things look kind of funky sometimes):

Are there any round LCD gauges that fit the stock location? I like the analog suckers, but there is a lot to be said for customizing a screen for different situations...

If it was OLED with good graphics, one might not even notice...

I’ve been searching for a long time for a round screen gauge that can accept video inputs. Short story is, they don’t exist. What would be really nice is if we could have a multi-function guage to replace the clock or speedo with a GPS map that’s switchable to whatever we like. But that’s just me dreaming.

Google round lcd screens. They use a ton of processing power. Ever wonder why the Apple Watch is square. Thankfully Samsung came up with a solution. And offer a round lcd watch. Hopefully in the future they will be able to make larger round screens.

I was looking a couple years ago for a nice round digital display. Then found out it wasn’t going to happen. So I had this made up. It was a GPS speedo. Totally electric, the needle was tied to the processor. So it didn’t have to be hooked up to the transmission or anything. Cool stuff.

Jayson, I so want to add something on my dash along the lines of what you have there. Lately I have been doing a lot of MS3X tuning using TunerStudio with my laptop sitting on the passenger seat and I would love to have a configurable dash screen that can utilise some of the gauges and indicators that are available in TS.
The pic below is my laptop screen, so there is no way we could fit all this into the space available, but it would be great to be able to display some of it.
Anyone aware of devices that can be used for this?

seafeye,
where did you get that speedo? my project had a mechanical speedo that went out with the old 915. looking for a proper 930 4 sp now. was wondering about GPS speedo rather than trying to calibrate a speedo driven by the gearbox and who knows what diameter tires I'll eventually have.

also appreciate the pic of your dash. I am at the point of starting to think about putting my 78 SC/930 conversion back together. definitely want to do something custom with the dash, and adding some gauges.

here is your pic right-side-up.

Rocketwrench - sorry, I found it a long time ago. I only have these:

In addition to those posted.
I think it was originally a 912 and at the time of the photos, was running under VW power.

Seafeye - would also be interested in the source of your speedo. It could resolve many engine swap / kit car issues I've faced over the years!

Tach

Having this one installed this week...
Saves me from rotating the tach... and can set some shift lights.

The dash pic was from my 944 racecar.
The digital/analog speedo was made for me by speed-gun. Not sure they are still in business. Their website is down or not working for me. I liked their product because it allowed me to not have to get info from the transmission. Here is a video to explain more. They would do custom printing on the gauge face as well. Sure hope they are still in business. Great products that worked very well.

The speedhut site worked for me early yesterday but doesn't seem to work now. I was playing with a few of their gauges. They had a lot to work with. You can upload custom images and text to print on the gauges which was pretty cool.

The AEM CD-5 works with the MS3 CAN output, we even have a CAN template already configured for it. You would either create your own layout or utilize one of our existing layouts. The dashes are 100% user configurable so you can display anything you want!

Interesting. The Nest thermostat got away from the high cost of non-rectangular screens by using a rectangular screen that they masked to resemble a circle...I wonder if the same technique could be used in place of the tach (a square behind the dash that simply gets cropped into a circle by the bezel on the front).

Maybe one day people will just start slapping old phones behind bezels...The new iPhone X is OLED, but I digress...
