So, what do you guys suppose is the cheapest way to make/get a 930 style tach with a boost gauge?

Maybe one day people will just start slapping old phones behind bezels...The new iPhone X is OLED, but I digress...

Perfect Tuning gauge. You can choose 3 sensors + Volt readings and several different screen options. I will use the AFR, Boost, Fuel Pressure and Volt. I can program the LED colors, warnings and buzzer for one or several triggers. I used the clock housing to mount it.

“Speedhut”. Took about 3-4wks turnaround time.... you can configure your gauge on their website... even add graphics.

My car is having some work done this work, but I’m picking it up before the weekend... i can keep you updated on it.

I had one in my car before putting in the CD-5...works great. You will need a small adapter ring to make it fit inside where the factory tach went as it is a bit smaller than the factory OD. All the details are in my thread here:

Yes, Palo Alto Speedometer. I have been working with Hartmut there for decades now (I had them calibrate a fuel sender and gauge for my 914 back in 1988 for a Getty Design 911 style dash install in that car). I couldn't be happier with their work. Also, I love that their old school auto "repair" shop is located at ground zero in tech nation. That's my kind of anachronism.

Anywho, while it wasn't inexpensive by any means, my ROI in this instance is extremely high as I derive untold units of pleasure from this upgrade. The instrument panel is one of my many favorite aspects of these cars.

I'm kicking around the idea of all white on black instruments (including the pointers) a la analog aircraft instrumentation (utilizing a Bell & Ross watch style font) for my new, to me, '87. Then again, I'm a sucker for the classic look. Pretty damn perfect right out of the 1974 box (save for the nasty busy later dual speedometer scale).

I really like the 964 / 993 style gauges (save for the patchwork quilt look of all the warning lights) and considered retrofitting a set into a G-body car, but have opted against doing so at this stage.

Just read the thread- this is very cool- does anyone know actual VDO font?
Assuming that you can get that (thread says you can) this is a great way to get a real restomod tach complete with shift lights and custom graphics for about USD 200
Just what I was looking for!

Yeah, both my '87 & '88 are rockin' Renos! That being said, I think I'm going radio delete in the '87, replete with Speaker delete rear panel and door panels. Should look CLEAN.

I just installed carmagic.us bright white LEDs in my '87. They're pretty sweet. I'm thinking about having the tach modified such that the scale is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise, such that the 0 is at Six o'clock and the 6 is at twelve o'clock. I haven't decided if I'll put a voltmeter at nine o'clock.
