No spark on new engine
Hi,
I just installed my new Fat Performance engine. 2.2 with 44 IDF carbs. It looks great in the car but for some reason I can't get any spark. It has a oo9 distributor with a red and black wire. There is also a black&purple wire and another black wire from the original harness. I'm not quite sure which goes to which terminal. I tried following the diagram from the haynes book but still no spark. The Haynes book mentions a green wire from the distributor but I think that is from the old distributor. Is there anything else I might have missed ignition-wise during the carb conversion? If anyone has done this conversion and can help. Please help!! Cheers, Elliot |

You need the green wire from the condenser. Lose the 009. Better off running your stock distibutor.

There is no green wire cause there is no condenser. I have pointless ignition. Cheers, Elliot

There is the problem, If you hooked it up backwards, it would fry the electronics. (Ask me how I know). BTDT twice on 2 different cars. Installed points and condensor and it fired right up.

There has to be +12 volts to the coil when the key is on. Try to find which wire is that one. The black/purple wire is the tach feed from the coil to the dash, don't worry about it till you get spark as if it is hooked wrong it could stop the spark. The wire from the distributor get hooked up as per the instructions. I imagine the switched 12 volts is what is missing? Good luck

Generally, the red wire from the spark trigger goes to the coil (+) terminal, and the black wire goes to the coil (-) terminal. The plain black (or black with red stripe) wire supplies +12V to the coil and goes on the (+) terminal, and the black/purple wire is the tach signal wire and goes on coil (-).

Thanks Dave,
I wired it up like you said but still no spark. I probly wire it backward the first time and burned something up. Am I now looking at replacing the pointless ignition or something worse? Elliot
