Wow. I love hearing about the chase.
Yeah its funny, the first time i ever rode in a 914 was in 1973 and I fell in love.I never really ever wanted any other car after that. I finally found a factory car about 15 years ago, already had steel flares, the original engine had been blown up by the dealer after some work and they installed a 2.2 with s pistons and e cams. Tons of fun I sit out in my garage at night sometimes and just look at it. John |

Boxing the Trailing Arms
Below is a very detailed photo sequence showing what we did to reinforce the rear suspension, particularly the trailing arm of the 914.
This is pre-fab reinforcement kit which was made available for the 914, but we're going to make our own... ![]() Here is how we did it using 1/8 inch material... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Spherical Bearings - Rear Trailing Arms
These are very precise parts, once installed, the trailing arm have zero play and move up and down very easily.

Engine Mount Reinforcement Modification
The engine mount bracket of a factory 914-6, although very adequate, they were reinforced in most 914-6 GT race cars with additional reinforcements.
This is the Bozzani 914-6 GT, also known as the Howard De Haven and/or Bill Noon GT. Now take a close look at the engine mount bracket in the following two photos. ![]() ...here is another view of the same 914-6 GT. ![]() In the following two photos you can compare the "before and after". The next photo shows my 914-6 prior to the engine bay restoration and installation of the two engine mount bracket reinforcements. ![]() ...and after the clean-up and modification. I have to continue to thank Mark Spraker for all the remarkable work being done to my car. ![]()

We need a rotissarie, can't go on like this...
As we continue with the 914-6 GT conversion and restoration, we realized that is time for a rotisserie. We can't go on working around the car with jack-stands and plastic milk boxes from our local grocery store.
This rotisserie started out as a "general application” auto/truck rotisserie which we later modified specifically for our model Porsche 914-6. BTW, I purchased this item on eBay for ONLY $640 plus another $190 in shipping fees. What a deal, and fast delivery too! Here is the manufacturers description... This 3,000 lbs capacity auto body rotisserie is professionally built and designed. It allows for easy 360 degrees access during the restoration process of any make or model of car or truck. Our rotisserie is stronger than others because of it's heavy duty jig welded construction built from .188 3/16 inch steel. The heavy duty design and construction of our rotisserie eliminates unwanted body stress and distortion which is common when using cheaply built rotisseries. We have the important (3) legged base design that is stronger and allows each end unit to be free standing. This also makes loading your body into it a lot easier. All load bearing welds are triple passed for extra strength. Our rotisserie has several important features including more length span than other units, more width reach, and more "center of gravity" adjustability to make rotating effortless . It's also designed for compact storage when not in use. Each unit comes with (6) heavy duty ALL steel swivel casters allowing it to be safe to use around oils and chemicals unlike rubber or poly wheels! Capable of doing trucks and muscle cars. Each unit comes with detailed, illustrated instructions to help you get started on your project. Don't be mislead into buying cheaply built units. FAST, discounted shipping! Anywhere in the USA in 5 days or less! Feel free to e-mail us with any questions you may have, or find more information at the web site www.theroto2000.com ![]() The rotisserie arrived! Now what??? ![]() ![]() How quickly things change... Following is a photo of an idea I had. I wanted a way to easily raise and lower the car, but having the mechanism permanently built into the rotisserie. (PS: A few years back, when I purchased this rotisserie, the manufacturer did not have their new "hydraulic jack option" and many other accessories as they do today. FYI) ![]() ...and the rest of the photos will show how the concept evolved. ![]() ![]()

This is a hand winch that uses a 'worm-drive" mechanism. It will stay put exactly where you want it, without having to use any type of locking mechanism to stopping it from moving.
I found and purchased a couple at Harbor Freight, very inexpensive at around $28, see here 2000 Lb. Capacity Geared Winch ITEM DESCRIPTION: This manually operated winch is perfect for use on pickup trucks and trailers or for temporary installations. Made with smooth-operating hardened steel gears, the winch features an ample 25-ft. galvanized steel cable capped with a sturdy hook. Mounting hardware included. Portable and easy to mount Load capacity: 2000 lbs. Gearbox: worm gear, 40:1 ratio 25-ft. galvanized steel cable with hook Load capacity: 2000 lbs. Cable: 3/16" x 25 ft. Hook opening: 5/8" Base (mounting plate): 6-1/2" x 5-1/2" Shipping Weight: 11.25 lbs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
