Late Model Front Struts

Hey guys, could I replace my 87 sealed struts with an 86 strut with inserts? Could I possibly even use early model struts? I figure this would be the best solution so that I could use inserts for future suspension upgrades.

Just get the 1414 strut inserts from Paragon (or Pelican if they sell them). You can look up the conversion process for your sealed struts on either site.

It is relatively inexpensive and not too difficult to do.

You cannot use early offsets with a late offset car.

Good luck,

Keith

What he said. You can't put early struts in a late car. The knuckles are different.

Not unless they make a version for the same purpose. As far as I know Koni is the only one who makes this specialized insert.

Get them and be happy! You get a lifetime warranty, and they are adjustable on the fly.

Koni is the only one that makes something for the cut & drill method.

I just ordered this setup today, I am going to bring them to a friends shop and have them put on when they get here. Pretty good deal, how you can give them the cores and get 250 USD back. The OEM struts are way over priced, the same pos that came on my SAAB stock...and yes the stock struts are not all that great, ask any European about the brand.

They charge you $250 until you send them yours back. That's for them doing the work, not you.

They only making the mods to the shock insert, they do not install the springs, unless you pay them even more money. They have detailed instruction on the modifications to fit the Koni's inserts, that is not worth my time.

I documented this procedure about a year ago. It was actually much easier than I was expecting and took about 4-5 hours from start to finish. I too was nervous about "cutting" my struts. But, I talked to the guy at 944online.com and he explained the procedure to me. The koni inserts come with directions but it's mostly a pictorial and no english words.

Hope this helps.........................Vern
