My Success was very short lived, I went back to gapping the sensor and my allen wrench i fear slipped back behind the engine and into another inspection hole that is on the back of the bellhousing cover. Good God these cars are without a doubt the most miserable pieces of **** to work on that i have ever seen.
I will pull the starter off and see if i can dig it out of there, i cant see it laying on top of anything and it never hit the ground. I JUST FOUND IT! It was standing straight up between the starters electrical terminals |

I was just trying to figure this out and YOU did it. $79 for Magnecore is pretty good and 8.5mm wires: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_BAStun_pg1.htm#item2 John_AZ |

I highly reccommend the remove the intake manifold method...not that big a job and leaves the sensors wide open for easy access then it is a "peice of cake" to replace and adjust the sensors
hope that is your problem! |
hAPPY BIRTHDAY!

is this car running?
|
And I thought I was having a tough time with removing my sensors. Note to self, put some painters tape over the inspection hole. . . .
|
This is the exact thread that I was looking for, but still some questions. I have replaced most of the things that will solve a hot start problem (DME relay, apgraded to late DME & AFM, feul line, FPR and damper, new speed/ reference sensors, ignition switched tested good as did the fuel injectors.
I was trying to re-set the reference sensor gap. I got the sensors out, I got the passenger side pivot bolt out (and it fell down the elusive black "inspection" hole, I know that I have to get that out or I may have some damage to the clutch when I get the car running again. But, after 2 turns of the allen wrench, I notiiced that the drivers side mounting bolt was stripped, either by me, or one of the other POs of the car. We all know that there is not much room down there to manouver, so I tried to get the bolt out using a right angle drill. I stoped doing that afetr I was drilling at a slight angle, and decided to stop. TSNAPCRACKLEPOP- I will PM you, but how did you go about cutting the bracket out, while leaving the mounting bolt in place (I assume that you left it in place from the pictures on pg. 2) What angle did you chisle/ sawzaw the bradcket? How did you cut the replacement bracket, did it sit flush/ line up correct with the original bracket? How would you guys get the pivot bolt out of the bellousing if this happened to you? I have tried using an extension magnet and a coat hanger from any point that I could stick these into the bellhousing from the inspection hole, taking out the starter, and 2 other holes in the bellhousing. I would really hate to pull the tranny, tourqe tube and everything else that would need to be pulled. And I would also hate, If I didnt pull the TT and tranny, and I did start the car, haver the clutch take a crap becuase of a 3/4" bolt in the bellhousing- if its in there- almost 100% it is though. Thanks guys. |
remove the intake manifold first so you have room to work
I have a spare bracket if you need one let me know |
now that i have reviewed thee pix, i recall that i used a chisel about 10 inches long, and 1/2 inch wide, and broke the upper part of the bracket, as thats about all you can reach. as it split, the lower half cracked and fell apart(alMOST, I DID PRY THE UPPER HALF APART TO ENCOURAGE THE PROPER BRACKET DEMOLOTION) cover the inspection hole now!!
wow, that brings back a flood of bad memories, lol!! this weekend i am putting door handles inside and outside of my drivers door, although my middle digit and right thumbis now much larger and stronger than ever!! Those of you who have gone without understand i am sure! |
may as well get that bracket for vital-transform now, you need it.
|
on the second to last pix on pg 2, you can see the "ear" that remained on the car and bolt after chisel application. small vice grips then applied to bolt where they previously would not fit worked fine. when you get it out, the porsche fear will be gone and you will say "why didn't i do that in the first place". Its the fear of breaking something else, expensive.
"Stop fixing things one step before you break something else" |
Thanks vital-transformation, Ido have the inspection hole pluged with a cloth, and when I bought the speed and reference sensors, the guy gave me the newer bracket (with the 3rd sensor hole.) I have been working with the maniflod, fuel rail, etc.. off, thanks. Would a sawzal/ small hacksaw be better, or is a chisel the best way to go? If I do get the bracket off, excluding the ear, I hope that I didnt expand the bolt when I tried using my right angle drill to try and drill the mounting bolt out from the engine side.
|
probably no expansion problem, i drilled for a couple hours and made little progress. try to clean up the little wires than may come out of the sensor as it may disintegrate as it comes out, maybe a magnet. The human always wins.
