well no luck yet, the connectors on the car side look good nothing broken on them, i rechecked the bracket and aligned just how it said on clarks garage, now I'm wondering what could have failed that caused the car to stall on me and then get no spark, maybe DME relay??? as of now I'm shooting blind:confused:

John_AZ 03-02-2009 08:23 PM

On post 59 you said you had tach bounce. DME relay is next. No spark?

Sorry to read about the D & J work situation.

While you were up on top of the engine working, you may have disturbed the connector on the AFM or the cylinder head temp sensor.

h8tr_ 03-03-2009 07:40 AM

John_AZ i just noticed now that you point it out that i missed the "no" on post 59 what i meant to say there was that i had no tach bounce.

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 03-03-2009 07:51 AM

after mine wouldn't start, my brother insisted that it must be sensors, thats how I enede up going thru this heXX! I also removed and cleaned the dme computer under the passenger floorboard with electrical contact cleaner, and the contacts, since my battery tray used to leak. There was a little corrosive dust near the drainhole in the computer case, but no huge defects I could see. when I got it all back together, I replaced the cap and rotor, and replaced all the plugs with autolite 65's///////////
runs like a striped ass ape! KISS (keep it simple ,stupid) I had had problems starting this car in the past after rain or thick fogs. Previously, it started by drying out the dme relay. Then, one day, it would not start, just Missed a little and ran poorly, very very poorly. I wash my engine a lot, so I probably got a crack in the dizzy cap, somewhere. I cannot see it. I have looked, but my cap was really shot anyway. be sure you get the cap on straight, mine moves a little when you install it.

yea they are connected right , that was the first thing i made sure i marked properly before disconnecting them, I've read a lot how people are having a no start problem and turns out to be they plugged them in incorrectly. I'm gonna try the DME relay jumper trick to see if its my DME relay that has gone bye bye

Resetting is found in www.Clarks-Garage.com

I forgot something very IMPORTANT!!!!

COVER the bell housing TIMIMG MARK HOLE
COVER the bell housing TIMING MARK HOLE

Use HD duct tape or stuff a rag in the opening. If you drop anything down, the WHOLE clutch has to come out.

John_AZ

Oh Oh I just dropped the Allen bolt into the TIMING MARK HOLE,,ARGHHHHHHHHHHH.
I was gapping the speed sensor today thinking it may be the cause of the cold start problem, i removed the allen head thinking it would be easier to work with if i replaced it with a bolt instead. I dropped it, and down it went. i will try to fish from the bottom but know what i may be in for as i replaced the starter ring last summer.
I can guarantee the car will sit for a long long time and may even be towed away someday if i cant fish it out of there.......

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 03-03-2009 02:48 PM

i am still missing a 6mm allen, maybe mine got ground up?

iamchappy 03-03-2009 06:15 PM

My odds to fish it out may be a bit better seen is an automatic not a clutch. I know whats involved in getting inside of that bellhousing and it's not what i would call fun.

I wanted to back to the beginning...I deleted, added caps and red for emphasis.

Outback Porsche suggested you may have damaged other connectors while removing the sensor bracket. Did you replace the sensor connector at the top rear of the block?

Here is another "no start" link from member many944s:
http://www.benms.com/944nostart.html

www.Clarks-Garage.com has the DME jumper as well:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-05.htm

Look at the Troubleshooting section as well.

The car started when you got it. Did you use the sensors from the past owner or have you purchased new?

Keep us posted on your findings.

Hi Chappy,
Good luck on getting the bolt.

You should put the link to the 914 project in your sig line. It is an amazing build.

SUCCESS!!!! I was able to fish out the Allen head bolt with the washer this morning.......

The 8mm copper washer that was glued to the sensor that fell off also is still in there somewhere but
that doesn't really worry me if i cant find it, it can stay in there if i chooses to.....

h8tr_ 03-04-2009 11:00 AM

Hello everyone, I have some great news she fired up again turns out the DME relay was at fault, now i think back and maybe i didn't need to replace the sensors just yet but then again in the condition they were in i was gonna have to go through hell so better now then later i suppose, so i went to the hardware store today spent about .80 cents in supplies and made my dme relay jumper and plugged it in just like the instructions said on clarks oh and i also repositioned the sensors very carefully to make sure everything was good down there, after the jumper was in i heard the gas pump start up i said to myself well thats a good sign, then i got in the car closed my eyes took a deep breath and turned the key staring at the tach i saw it bouncing then i heard brrrrooooooommmm, so now my issue is that i need to replace the spark plug wires they are in really bad shape and the last one on the engine is not working as i kinda broke it trying to remove it, it was kinda seized in the hole anyways is there somewhere i can buy these for cheap i was not expecting for them to be so expensive but then again that should be expected on this car
