Hi all later tonight I will post a little more about myself.
I am restoring a '84 944 and I am having a little trouble figuring out how to remove the Porsche Crest from the nose panel. I have been searching for a good solution most of today but I haven't seemed to have had any luck. I have been using the Tech Info on this website with some of the things on the car so far and would just like to let you all know how wonderful that has been in helping me with different things. Sorry to double post but. It was relatively easy to remove the crest.

I found by removing the front bumper (2 bolts), there was plenty of room for my hand to go behind the nose panel and remove the nuts holding the crest on. Much easier than trying to remove the nose panel... added benefit is I got to detail the bumper components on the workbench (still early in our restoration so removal worked out perfect)... .

Did you miss my previous post? All you need is a painters multi-tool aka 5-Way and you can just pop that sucker right out of there.

Yup, they are easy to get off.. but installing the new one? do the blind nuts stay in place? The early header panel is spot welded, not removable.. There is a small through hole in the internal air channeling "sheetmetal" below the header panel, they somehow fit a tool in there for installing the porsche crest, it's a very tight fit. I don't think you can get at it if the stock radiator plastic ductwork is in place. After looking through a few other posts on the subject, it looks like there are just plastic inserts in the header panel that captivate the badge by friction... no need for tools.

When you reinstall the badge, use a blow dryer to CAREFULLY heat the rubber gasket, then put the gasket on the badge. It's a bit tricky, but if you heat the gasket, it will lay correctly when installed (no edges rolled under).

When you click on the button "post reply" or "go advanced" next to the quick reply box, there should be an option to attach an image or two.
