Where to find this device
http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/images/transmission/OilPump1.jpg
I was thinking I should change my transmission oil in a bit to MT-90, not sure what is in there right now. It was an extreme pain on my 83 because I had to make some makeshift tube device that barely worked and took a while, was a PITA, and the jerry rig is long gone by now. Also, is there a difference between the transmission and differential fluid?

Hmm. That one in the link looks homemade from an industrial soap gallon jug pump...
I just remove both drain plugs, drain, put the lower one back in, and fill up with the gear oil bottles. I have one cap I cut off at the right length and stuck a clear tube into, then just tip the bottle and squeeeeeeze it in there. Jeff

Just an important reminder which has been posted here previously - always loosen the fill plug BEFORE you loosen the drain plug.
Reason - these fluids don't get usually get changed that often and the last thing you want is to drain the fluid only to find that you can't get the fill plug out... As for the filling technique I just use a lrge squeezy bottle with a couple of metres of clear tube so you can thread the tube all way from outside the wheel arch over the tyre under the body and ito the trans - has worked for me twice |

Et voila!!!! will save a lot of headach when changing your tranny oil.Personally I always use a garage hoist, for the cost it don't worth crawling under the car.Diff & tranny use the same oil,one filer plug for both.

Sundays paper.
HF usually puts coupons in with all the other loose coupons for shampoo, drugs, soap. Another in the Sunday movie/food/celebrity magazine. and a third --4 full size newsprint pages of coupons with the other store fliers. OH, there are about 7 HF in Phoenix, maybe thats why. John

That HF unit is junk. The hoses are even kinked in the pics....Get a funnel, and some hose that fits on the end. Put the other end into the tranny fill hole. Bring the funnel up to the fender, and tape the fuch out of it with blue painters tape. Fill transmission. It's that easy.

Kudos to the guy who says the pump is junk and then builds a cinder block tower two inches from his fender.
Fully awesome.

Mmmk. First, the pump is junk. Tried using it to do the fluids on my dads Pinz 710. Might be because it's: $3, made in china, and sold by HF. Second, those are not my pics, just pics from a google search. I suggested the tape, not the blocks. I'll quit feeding the troll now...

the very first pump shown is the same set up for pumping oil into an out drive lower unit on boats. walmart has them and are cheap. I have one and used it many times, gear oil for out drives is the same weight as for the porsche trans.

+1 on the ladder and tube - but I put my funnel about hip level, and it works just fine. You need to take the wheel off - makes it easier to route the tubing. I also use clear tubing so you can see the progress.
Very easy job. To drain and re-fill, maybe 30 minutes.

Clear tube, good idea. Mine was clear but pretty corroded and stained lol. Seems like a new funnel and tube is in order... and a trip to Home Depot
