Fuchs Questions

I decided that I am going to replace my Cookie Cutters with 16x7 and or 16x8 Fuchs. Now I have a few questions.

1. I know the offset of my 83 944 is the same as an 86 951, so Fuch off a 951 will fit. Will 16x7&8 Fuchs off a 911 fit? Are they the same as the 951 Fuchs.

2. What is the approximate shipping cost of 4 wheels?

3. Anyone know of any excellent condition, black center, 16x7 or 8, preferable with a good set of tires included?

Can't say if they will fit or not.

but if you are looking for used wheels, try 20th street auto

last I checked, they wanted $100 each for fuchs wheels

add an additional $20 per wheel for shipping

The 911 Fuchs are completely different from the 951 fuchs. Your best bet is to get the real 951 fuchs so that you can run the correct size rubber without interference. Trying to mix and match 911 fuchs to your 944 will also be expensive as the stock 911 fuchs were 6 and 7s (which are the most likely to be for sale). If you are really that serious about upgrading wheels I'd suggest checking out the tirerack for a new set of Cups. They are cheap, look great and will add value to your car.

Thamlin000;

hi,

I don´t know in what model year the 944 change the offset.
I have an early model like you, my case 84 but the same offset.
I have a 7" overall cookie wheels.
I don´t believe that this " slow " cars need more tire, the handing is incredible good !, I recently red that some cars came with 8" cookie rear wheels.
And you can find in any brand of tires a model for this 7" or 8" at very affordable price.
Also you will notice a change in rpm if you change to 16" wheels
( I have a sim program, you will change rpm,top speed,etc)

But if you want the look of the fuchs wheels, let´s go.
Some months ago I bought on ebay 2 sets of fuchs wheels (flared 914´s), 6 of this are original and the other 2 repros.
530 usd the 8x15 adn 8.5 x 15, 683 usd the 7x16 and 8x16.
And bought new center caps in 50 usd the set.

I install this wheels in my 944 only to see how it looks and looks and fits ok, all of them even the 8.5 in the rear fits ok and don´t exceeds the flare.
This 8.5" are the repro but I don´t recomend you because is difficult to find the correct size and expensive.

Before I bought the wheels I made a research about the offsets or better say backspace (wheels), I ask in the 914 and 911 forum and ask direct to wheel enhancement that makes a very good repros (expensive).
This are the urls:

9 " X 15 RSR WHEELS backspace or offset ?

9 " X 15 RSR WHEELS ?

I believe that you only need to check the 7" wheels but why not go to 8" overall

Hope this help you

Maybe some people will be in disagree with me but if I need to do it again I will buy new repro because you don´t until you have the wheels in hands of a specialist if your wheels are ok or not.
I´m lucky with mines because are in good condition but one time I need to reapir a 6" fuchs and the specialist need to hot the wheel, etc and is difficult and expensive and you will need to re paint the wheel.
I don´t remember the name but in the excellence magazine appears a house that sells new repro in 180 each.

good luck !
regards

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone, for the website leads and information. I am going to limit my search to ONLY 951 Fuchs 16x7 and 16x8 wheels. I'm in no rush to buy, so I'll keep on the lookout for some nice wheels for awhile.l So if anyone knows of any, I could be interested.

Porsche Crest

I have 15" fuchs and have plans to get the '86 951 fuchs, been keeping my eyes open for a while for an affordable set. The 16x7's are easier to find and not as costly as the 16x8's from what I've been seeing, which has been as high as $800 EACH!! If the seller really knows their wheels, they are usually wanting big cash for them. But you can always get lucky and find someone selling a set that is unaware on just how strong and light these wheels are.

If you go with 225/50/16 on the 16x7's and 245/45/16 on the 16x8s, the difference in tire height is not enough to require any changes in the speedo. The size of the wheel makes no difference in final drive ratio, it's the tire size. There is only a fraction of an inch difference between stock 215/60/15's tire size and the size of these 16" tires. The size a tire changes from normal wear, from new to when the tires are about to go bald, is greater than the difference this wheel tire swapout makes.

I just bought a set of '86 951 Fuchs as track wheels for my car. They are WWWWAAAYYYY lighter than my C2 replicas. They don't look as good, but they look nice, IMHO (my girlfriend says they make the car look "dated").

I picked mine up, in mint shape, from a fellow Rennlister for $400 plus shipping. Put out a parts wanted ad, I had 4 or 5 people reply in no time, all with good deals...

what about the weight difference? I've got 15x7 phone dials all around right now, and am thinking about going to 16x7 and 16x8 rears. How much lighter are the Fuchs? If the 951 tire/wheel combo is lighter, then I'll go for it! If not, forget it--I'll just buy better tires next time.

I had Borbet type A's before size 17x8.5 fronts with 225/45's, and a whopping 17x10 rears with 255/40's, and they fit just fine. Heavier than hell though, to the point where I took them off because I couldn't stand it anymore. In fact, anyone wanna buy?
