Herr-Kuhn, no need to defend yourself, you're liked here. For that matter we seem to accept anyone regardless of their flaws. Let's keep the arguments on the more "Political" forums.

I should have some new pictures of the build in a few days. In addition, I will be making some videos of this one for youtube. Maybe 3 or 4 of them detailing the system layout.

I'm not sure what got into Erik...but he is apparently banned from Pelican. It does say "Hacker Safe" at the upper right corner of the site. Before anybody jumps on me...I had nothing to do with the banning either.

Hey guys....I am very new here and I might add you have some great information and knowledge. Is nice to see people like you all that are fanatics for the great quest for 928 Hp!!

I have been researching long and hard between various add-on kits and pretty much narrowed it down to a nice turbo kit (If I can still afford one later). Looking forward to more pics and the YouTube addition.

I have a nice 88 S4 Euro 5-Speed I am fixing up (After the car tried to move a corner concrete barrier at a local Italian track). I am swapping the motor to place into my auto after an unfortunate thrust bearing failure (Lack of knowledge on my part), to sell in a few months to fund my wide body set-up. I have a relatively new motor sitting in London waiting for a set of new cams I am having re-ground to a .441 lift, 944S Springs to prevent 7200 RPM float, #40 Injectors (Or little larger), new mapping, Chips, X-Pipes, Headers, and of course a turbo kit with IC. 80% of all the parts I have already, now waiting on the cams to complete then begin to piece everything together, Jacquemond will complete out the body & paint.

Keep the great information flowing!!!

John,
Sorry forgot to add the question about the Intercoolers mounted into the chassis....Isn't this position more prone to rock and foreign debris possibly from the tires? Anyway to better protect?

Thanks for your works....

Turbo and non turbo have different cam profiles don't they?

The overlap or duration if I remember correctly, lift maybe the same though.

You don't want overlap in a turbocharged engine. stock cams are usually enough for most people for most aftermarket turbo/super cars

Picture Update

Here are a few more pictures of the build of the single turbo with the twin intercoolers and induction plumbing. Notice the integration of the blow-off valves into the system. I would normally not use these since I prefer closed loop recirculation, however since this is a rear mount turbo and we don't want reversion happening in the system, I needed a way to get the air out of the system as close to the throttle plate as possible. This allows all of the stored air in the intercoolers and piping from the turbo forward to this point to exhaust out when the throttle plate is closed and the engine swings back into vacuum. You will notice the pipes for the bypass ports are on the outer or larger radius on the bend...this is because the air will favour that side of the pipe when flowing. It's always the little details that make it all come together in the end.

This was a big project...basically another development project that had to be tackled. There is always more work than meets the eye. I didn't want it leaving here looking half baked, so aesthetics, as always is very important.

Rear mount turbo? You have my attention now. Which turbo size is it? Wait - (Edit) I guess you already told me. Same car?

It's a precision T67 unit. Not sure on all the wheels and trims, but it's a pretty big unit. This week I'll be putting in all the lines to and from the turbo. It's getting braided lines all the way to and from the turbo for both oil and water. It's not worth the risk to run anything else. Time consuming and a little costly, but worth the time and $ all the way.

What about running a smaller second oil and water system? Easier or harder?

I will be doing this on the 82 very soon. Trying to learn as much as I can about the rear mount process. I thought it looked like a lot of plumbing.

The BB seems to work really well for the rear mount. Buys an earlier spool.

There are just a few more little fab things to do and then I can put it back together. The WOT switch is not working right now and I have to fix that along with pulling the valve covers to install 2 more breather ports. Then I have the go ahead to start putting all the lines together and parts on the car. It's a shame, but the computers in the 86 cars are much more primative than the 87 and up cars. I don't like the way the ignition system works off of a vacuum signal when you already have a bloody MAF in the car that indicates load. I will have limited resolution on the boosted WOT ignition because of this. The best would be to replace the transducer with one that operates over the same voltage range in vacuum and boost. I don't think anybody has done that yet.

Hoping for around 500 on the tire with the car. I know it has the lungs for it. If the rear turbo can come on boost and drive the charge it should be able to hit the 500 mark.
