So I think I have the engine in for the last time... I had to move the exhaust a bit do to the fit. Needed about 1" on each side.

Harness is on, I need to pick up some parts I ordered from Bob Johnsons. Then I have to figure out why the harness has a three wire MAF plug and the MAF has like a 4 pin out plug.

after that its put in the oil, connect the starter and turn the key for a test fire.
then build the cooling system.

I pulled the bumper off to better see the engine/exhaust in the car for fitment.

Thank you for the tons of pictures. I'm finally getting the ball rolling on mine again this weekend (just purchased rad hoses, fuel lines, pump, regulator, and lots of fittings).

I hope to have the entire front end sealed up within the next two weeks, and all thats left is making an engine cradle.

Hey Rebel, I put a post in Todd's thread (which I am sure you are following), but ...

Holley is having gathering of LS powered cars this September in Bowling Green, KY.

I'll be there with my 911 LS6 Cab, it would be great to have a few other non-domestics representing.

Mike

if it's running I will be there. I assume this is Holley as in the carbs.
can you pm me any of the details? thanks

it's alive!!! running pig rich since the o2's are not in.
looks like I need a new fuel pressure regulator and another muffler.

the engine i purchased had 16 slightly bent valves so I had to source new heads... picked them up for $35 complete with springs and valves. God I love working with LS1's.
swapped them on in about 1 hour and turned the key. below is the end result.

Were you guys thinking of participating in the drag or 0~60 events? I do not trust my 915 tranny in either of these so the show-n-shine non domestic would be for me :D

Previous cars I have driven to out of state events and it is not fun burning out a clutch or blowing up a tranny miles from home. Happened with my RX-7 and 12.88 qtr mile Miata..

Let me know, this has gotten my attention now

I bought the pass for the rally, tour and car show. I have no idea if I will be comfortable tracking my car for any of the hard core events (0 to 60 to 0 or the drag). I guess the more I drive the car, the better I will understand what I am comfortable with.

My gut is that so far from home, it will be best to take it easy on the car since it has to get us home on Monday. OK, maybe there could be a burn out or two along the way, but nothing crazy :)

Rebel911 06-14-2010 09:32 AM

If I go it will be a trailer queen on the way down. Way to far to go from NY to KY on a new set up.

Rebel911 06-19-2010 04:44 PM

I will post a good video of it running tomorrow.

The engine is running strong. now on to cooling it.
it is a firebird radiator. I an almost done with the shrouding. tomorrow I am going to ru the hoses to the back and finish the system.

Hopefully by the endog the day tomorrow i will be drivable.

It may be just me but a lot of the ruffs, strosek and several others shaved the rain gutters. this whoe chopped top would flow much better if you shaved the gutters and tig welded the seams. makes the body stiffer also.

Rebel911 08-02-2010 06:20 AM

decided to paint the car myself. I want to be able to say I did everything myself. (other than the cage) I still have to bolt all the trim, rockers and tail back on and finish painting the inside.

wow, that looks so nice!
Keep going.
Did you do anything for the too low oil pan?

Rebel911 08-02-2010 09:23 AM

Thanks, I have not changed out the pan yet. I am trying to get the hard to do and weather sensitive projects tackled 1st.

shanghai_todd 08-02-2010 09:51 AM

Hopefully some of the other LS1 guys will chime in on this question as well. How much sagging in the rearend are you seeing? If it is anything like mine and as low as your oil pan is I am betting a half throttle launch will make that oil pan drop to the ground from the torque. Granted I have crappy KYB rear shocks and stock torsion bars my car takes a huge dip when the throttle is applied.

Coil overs with helper springs are in my horizon but I am curious to see if this is happening to the rest of the LS1 swappers on this site.

Try pushing on your back bumper and see if your pan hits the ground. This may not be a problem for the 930 guys who have larger torsion bars but my SC suspension is not up for the challenge..
