Was the Glaverbel glass available tinted? Any one with the "Bible" that can post whether #406 came with tinted glass option?

That is tinted glass on the car.

RS #406 was delievered as a M472 Touring model so it would have come with series production glass. Lightweight glass was put in the Homolgation model and left there if it was converted to the M471 Sport (lightweight) model. If it was converted to M472 it was removed and series production glass was installed. All RS windshields were clear glass.

The option for tinted glass (except the windshield) is 463 for series production glass and only for the M472. According to 'Carrera RS' this car didn't have this option so the glass should all be clear.

140K! I was thinking last night that maybe some "expert" had already looked at the car, maybe deciding to try to get the thing. Just a thought...
If so, he wouldn't want to undo all the negative meanderings, now, by reporting in, right? Also, maybe the guy in Austria either figures or knows he made a booboo, or maybe he just can't bare to take the chance of possibly finding his own car to be a fake, so he's not reporting in either?
All told, who in Heck knows.....
I don't really care, of course, but interested still.

...and the reserve still isn't met! Seems to me, if it were a fake, he'd not risk it with such a high reserve...

Goat said the reserve is 180k. It might get there.

Thanks Brian, Didn't know they changed out the glass on the Tourings of the first series.

Can't believe someone doing a repaint on a "real" RS would change all that glass out.

Not all of the glass on Roger's (#79) lighweight was lightweight when he sold it back in the late 70's (?) Glass breaks, and if the thin glass was NLA, many owners did the expediant thing. But hey, back in the late 70's who'd a thunk a 1973 RS would be getting the prices they get today?

That was my question at the top of page 9. For all we know the other one is the fraud...hell maybe they're both fakes and there is yet to be a third #406 auctioned off!

I'll bet the kneebar VIN under the radio would reveal the true car. Most VIN hackers don't know about that one.

I don't know -- most of us know about it. Why wouldn't they?

This thread is turning into a pretty comprehensive "If you want to fake it, here's how" checklist.

Good clear photos, thanks. Yes, other than the different numbers, that's what the trunk VIN in my car looks like. Same spacing, same font.

This was brought up earlier and I don't think it was confirmed, but here goes again:

In the pic above - as well as other pics, the VIN has what looks to be a half space on either side of the 3,
as in 911 3 100149 shown above. Can any of the RS owners who have posted here confirm that the half space is present on their VIN stamping next to the smugbox? The ebay car does not have the half space.

There was an early 'S' on eBay a month or two back, and there was a lot of controversy because it had a replacement VIN from the California DMV. There was some talk (on the 911s registry perhaps) regarding this issue and apparantly the people who provide the replacement VINs have a book that lists the other places that VINs are stamped.

Perhaps there some other hidden places (aside from under the dash) that contain the 'original' VIN that no one has yet to mention...
