it's a 1987..it seems as though 87's had a J in the vin, and 88's an E...
but that's not good news re finding the 505... here's the certificate of authenticity... ![]() |

I looked in my factory slantnose database and most of the 87's I have are J's.
I own 2 factory slantnose coupe's and they start are J's for the 4th digit too. You can call Porsche in Altanta to confirm but from the COA it looks to be legitimate. I have some 88's and 89's with J's too on the database.

I noticed some inconsistency between the "J" and "E" when I was searching for a car. Books would say one thing and the actual stamped VIN and accompanying paperwork would say the other. Also don't freak out if you find a stamped VIN in the front trunk with WPOZZZ... That's one place that all cars--even US models--had the "ZZZ" designation in the VIN, though the rest of the VINs on the car and paperwork should read the proper JBO/EBO/ABO. There's nothing in the VIN, itself, that will tell you if this is a factory slant or aftermarket conversion with proper parts.

Phil
The 3 listed as "We were not able to find definitions for any codes below this line" at post 4 are listed on you COA. I158 (Reno Radio for 1987) I505 (Slant nose for USA) I975 (Velour carpet in luggage compartment) Not sure what the M or I in front are but when you look for option decoding you only use the number Vin: http://www.***********.com/life/vin/vin.php Code: http://www.964uk.com/Documents/Porsche%20Option%20Codes.pdf

Sorry phil. Got your car mixed up with someone else asking about pre-purchase advice on a 930.

Factory Slant
You can contact Marc Noack at marc.noack@porsche.de.....He works at Porsche in Stuttgart. I recently went through this when I purchased a 1987 930S Slant....it indeed was a factory car. My car is a Sunderwunsch...or special wishes and it does not have the 505 designation on the sticker...so that does not mean that just because your car does not have the 505 option code that it is not a factory car. A few features to look for are boxed rockers, one headlight motor, additional oil cooler under the front valance (usually found only on Euro cars), the vanes in the inlet behind the door are made of wood....hope this helps....DR
