Yes, especially when pushing the envelope.

I've had people ask we why I post photos and descriptions of mistakes, not just the "everything is perfect" photos?
Because I think anyone wanting to take on a complex vehicle project should go in with his eyes open and have realistic expectations. It's never like the 1-hour show on TV. *Nothing* ever goes 100% as planned, especially when there's many small specialist companies involved. All it takes is one delayed part, one mis-communication, one human error, and you get a domino effect of problems that delay completion.
But patience and persistence (stubbornness?) gets you through, and the end result is worth it.

In terms of complexity of construction and coordination? An 8 or 9.

Yes, greater than the 964/993 manifolds, in order to support large displacements like 3.8/3.9/4.0L. Intakes tapered in to aid airflow distribution off boost, inspired by the 956/962/GT1 plenums.

But we have to be cautious with how much we make. There is greatly conflicting information on how much the G64 transaxle and front differential can withstand.
I am also interested to hear more about this. This is the 1st time I've heard of a Porshe 911 with AWD. What did the G64 transaxle come from?

The donor car is a 964 C4, not a 911. It was backdated to look like a long hood as part of the RWB conversion.

Pretty sure this is the sickest build I've seen on this forum in my 14 years.
Bravo!

The problem with this build is that it benchmarks what every RWB engine should be...perfect match for the much loved wild looks..

Full remanufacturing (synchros, sliders, gear teeth, bearings, etc), upgrade to both LSDs, billet side cover plate, modify for trans cooler, etc. Front diff remanufactured, too.

At what power level do these fail? Good question.
20 years ago ANDIAL put a 962C engine into a C4 and detuned it to 550hp, thinking that's the safe limit of the 964 AWD system.
I know where that car is now and the owner says he's had the power increased some more, still no issues with the 964 C4 AWD.

Thanks!
Though to give credit to several other RWB owners out there, there are others with a healthy dose of performance:
"Clermont" from Atlanta has a built 3.8RS making ~355hp flywheel
A 993 is running a Rothsport 3.8L or 3.9L RS/RSR with ITBs, so 390-400hp flywheel
Several guys in Thailand and Japan built these on Turbos and have upgraded headers, turbos, intercooler, cams, etc. Some have EFI.
And at least two cars are running built LS engines, one of them with Kinsler ITBs. Torque with a capital "T"!

Congrats to Chris for this build. Very impressive - like the intake plenums. Very 935ish.

Chris - what size ITBs and what brand? Can you share the intake / exhaust port sizing?

BTW, we met at Rennsport this last year...black 935 in the parking lot of the hotel. Thanks!

Curious, why not upgrade to a 993 C4 or Turbo drivetrain?

Hi!

The throttle bodies themselves are manufactured by Jenvey.
The trick RSR throttle linkage is manufactured by Rothsport.
Everything else is made by TurboKraft: billet airhorns, billet plenums, etc...

Heads are billet units manufactured by Xtreme Cylinder Heads. Intake ports are 43mm, exhaust ports are not round, they have a sort-of heart shape to them, so hard to define the ID.

993C4 gearbox isn't necessarily any stronger. The gears are thinner, 1st & 2nd are integral to the mainshaft...

993TT drivetrain = $$$$$

There was a lot of modifying and revising to be done, from intercooler to exhaust to clutch & flywheel to custom Brembos.

Big full-width intercooler, just barely fits under the customized Ducktail. Everything black anodized.
Original fan came apart shortly after this, getting a new one painted satin bronze to match the wheels and will install once fully cured.

The business end of things.
Had to build a whole new exhaust post-turbocharger, the first one was just too close to the RSR bumper and contacted in two places. The new one fits perfect, easy to remove and install.
(Yes, first system is available, fits 930/964/993 rear bumper/valence fine.)
All new stainless heat shielding for turbos and lower coil-on-plug ignition units.
Twin 3"air intakes to the turbos.

Start & idle with really big cams. No drama.

Got throttle response?

Will post dyno videos when that's done.
