I know a guy with a couple of old 911's who does occasionally drive them very 'spiritedly'. he hasn't had a ticket in several years.
the key, in his opinion, is 'speed smart'. there are lots of places on roads in BC that see very little traffic. open highway with little traffic isn't usually an issue. cops have better things to do than drive around the hinterland hoping to come across a speeder. NEVER speed in any kind of lower speed zone on the highway. I don't like people speeding through my town and others don't either. plus, that's where you'll see enforcement. pass other cars respectfully without endangering anyone. a little wave as you go by can go a long way toward preventing an irate phone call to the authorities. I suspect this law will last just about until the next provincial election. |

The BC governement has announced (without any detail yet) that they will be bringing new legislation around speeding etc. shortly. I expect higher fines and perhaps even more definition around the term "racing". When we have our next election it is almost certain there will be a change to a much more socialist party (NDP) and I doubt we'll get any sympathy from them on raising the limits etc. at all.

+1 speed limits were set when a '69 Chevy was the pinnacle of automotive technology. any modern econobox is light years beyond that. most highway limits in BC are unrealistically low. a convenient cash cow though. concentrate on getting EVERY drunk driver off the road. ESPECIALLY the repeat offenders. it always seems that when someone is killed by a drunk driver it's the guy with three DD convictions and driving without a license that's behind the wheel. |

Remember ICBC had to back down from its plan to remove the safe drivers discounts for those with speeding tickets even though they have not made any claims or had at fault accidents. Their justification was that those with speeding tickets had a higher potential to have accidents. Well there are lots of us with speeding tickets but still have the 10 year safe driving discount. So statistically speaking they are full of s*it. I'm going to guess that the fines will certainly double and probably triple. When the NDP get into power I would bet that they are going to introduce a sliding scale to tie into ones taxable income. They are socialists after all. And for all those morons that argue that this is all about safety ..... they can go f*ck themselves. Last edited by canuck964; 08-23-2012 at 12:52 PM.. |

However if you're a cop any increased leglislation will not have any impact as they know how to get out of any DD issues. Witness the cop that KILLED the motorcyclist and had the foresight to drop off ID, go home and down a couple of shots to create doubt as to his state of soberity at the time of the accident. No jail time. Imagine if a civilian was to do that! |
