Did any of you Calgarians....

have to relocate due flooding? If so where did you go? Friends or the City put you somewhere?

Some pretty incredible damage along the Bow and Elbow rivers. Many neighborhoods flooded and transportation and transit is shut down in many areas.
I left work early and stopped at the grocery store for a few things. I have never seen that many people in a Safeway store ever! They actually did a great job handling the crowd with every register open.
You wouldn't know there is a problem from where we are located but I have never seen the Bow run as high as it was today when I drove home.
It was interesting to read some of the negative comments on some of the news web pages today about how Alberta deserved what we are getting because apparently we are the worst polluters in the history of the world.
Nice thoughtful informed people we have living in this country...

I grew up there as a kid & still have family & friends there. They are all safe & untouched (directly) by the flooding. Billy said it best - incredible damage. I just hope for the best for all those affected by this disaster.

Just as Bill said, we weren't affected as we live west of the city.

I did do "what you're not supposed to do" however...I went for a long drive. I headed out to Bragg Creek...unreal how much flooding there was..the Elbow River was a mile wide! I then drove north to Cochrane to check out the Bow river....unbelievable amount of flow, though it appeared that the town, being high enough, was mostly unaffected. I then headed back to the TransCanada Highway to head back into town. I stopped at the PetroCanada....it was dead quiet...I was the only vehicle there and usually that station is very busy. As I drove back east towards Calgary I quickly realized that I was the only vehicle on the road! Man, I wish I would have taken the C4S instead of the GMC...I could have gotten away with a good run!

In all seriousness however, I do hope that all Calgary and area Pelicans are well and safe!

Cheers!

Alex

Took 2+ hours to travel from Barlow to Glenmore. They should have closed deerfoot way way way before the Calf Robe. They had to close deerfoot south due to flooding just past Glenmore, so they were shoehorning 3 lanes of traffic onto west Glenmore.

surprising and perhaps optimistic that officials are adamant the Stampede is going ahead as planned.

Best video I have seen yet of the flooding in Calgary.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vYv9BBIbwjE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Crap that didn't work...

Check out the Stampede grounds... That will be amazing if they can get that event to go!
The Saddledome is flooded to row 9... Good thing we don't have to worry about hosting a Stanley Cup final game, eh?

My work is shut down Monday and Tuesday.

Hope the others affected by this throughout the province are doing ok.

I am in Discovery and took my family to my dad's in the south. We are up on the hill of the community and felt we didn't really need to leave but I wanted to look after my family. We had our first sleep at home last night (along with a lot wine)

I came home yesterday expecting to see the last six months worth of basement work ruined by water but thank the lord we had no flooding. We have a sump pump but they killed power thursday night. A lot of my neighbours stayed and I bet my neighbour to the south saved our basement by keeping his sump pump going with a generator.

Going into our valley a lot of people have massive damage to their basements. I guess it can always be worse. The city has and still is doing an unbelievably good job in all areas of this disaster.

My family's thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

I know I will be busy next week helping our customers with remote access to their networks as I don't think too many people will be getting into work.

Thankfully the flood hasn't directly affected me. I have been to a number of the badly damaged areas for work.

High River was hit hard. As of Saturday morning most of the water downtown has been removed or dissipated on its own. The high water mark on the buildings is about four feet above grade.

In Bowness, all the (million dollar plus) homes backing along the river, have some major damage as well. At the street, the water was about two to three feet deep at the height of the flood. In the back yard of one of those houses, this gazebo was completely submerged an hour and a half after I took this shot. This is Thursday afternoon, moments before the evacuation notice.

Canmore and Exshaw are worse than anything you've seen on TV. Just an example from Exshaw...

Friday evening, Southbound Deerfoot Trail was down to only one lane out of three at Southland Drive. The remaining were under water.

Kensington and 14 ST on Saturday morning:

Arrowwood - Gleichen bridge on Sunday morning:

Very surreal as I am way up high, so no impacts at my end. My in-laws are in the same neighbourhood as steathln but up on the ridge - so despite that the neighbourhood was evacuated, they were untouched.

Downtown is still closed in sections, so I haven't been to work. I've spent the past 2 days helping one one my wife's best friend's father dig ut his basement - he's 82 and has lived in the same house in Rideau Park for over 40 years. Thankfully only the basement filled up to about a foot from the ceiling, but you can imagine how much stuff he had squirreled away in the basement. I am dead tired and have probably only worked about 10% as hard as those in the middle of it.

Wow! Those photos say a lot. Thank the 'gods' that amazingly there wasn't a greater loss of life - property damages have to be into billions of dollars.

On the radio this am, I heard that on of the financial institutions estimated three to five BILLION in damage. I guess this is a Canadian record or something. Everything I've seen is far worse than I had imagined. Everything I've heard echos that. It really is a tragedy...
