I had one of those for quite a while, removed blown motor and did a replacement junkyard motor.

the 87 holds a special place in history but I wouldn't touch it unless you got it for free. It's missing lots of bodywork and a mirror and I suspect the left side is the good side.

I agree and I need another project like a hole in the head, which actually may be beneficial in the right location. More pics.

I have the SS right where I want it and only want to clean up the carbon fiber over the winter and maybe get a new boss TIG'd in though the finished stand is elegant and works, I may just let it be.

Would be on it today if not for the flu. Perfect day to go to NH for a long ride and cider donuts, maybe Montreal style bagels at special little bakery.

yeah lots of NOPE in those pics. I think if you're in the mood for some fun history you should look around for the Honda V4s of that era. Plenty of folks here seem to agree!

When I had the SS you've seen I had the CF fenders cleared. It looks really good IMO but is not a fun job for a painter, I hear.

thanks, forgetting about it. I'm just going to sand with high grits (1000 to 3000), polish and clear the carbon with Cerakote.

I am no longer a rider/owner but to my eye a vintage Norton is a piece of art . Might be a piece of crap but visually is stunning . Just clean simple lines .

It certainly is the pinnacle of British engineering at the time, which is a two edged sword. …but it sat in sheds for 45 years and took less than 5 hours labor to get it running well and rideable. Many more to get it in this shape…BUT it’s 98% original so they did pretty good in that regard.

Congrats. I have the same skidplate on mine. I really enjoy the bike. 6 of us did the Oregon BDR back in July/August. Bikes worked great. Check your valve clearance way sooner then recommended. EVERY ONE of my friends that have the 790/890s were out of spec. One 890 in as little as 4000 miles. Pretty well known issue, but just a heads up. ALSO the stock airbox sucks, but I'm not sure if they improved it on the latest 890.

Ive heard the same. While spec is like 10k miles my buddy says his were tight at 5k. Tight valves nearly ruined our trip when we did the CO-UT-AZ BDR 2 years ago. The infamous single cylinder start combined with tight valves meant 2-5 hour delays each morning getting one to start.

I'm probably gonna do mine at 4k and see where they are at.

Just did the SM500 on mine - that was where the photo was from.

I've done the Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Utah BDRs. Done alot of Death Valley riding. But, I'm not familiar with the SM500. Gotta look that up. Looks fun

Leaving in the morning on a week long ride up in the Sierras.

Couldn't be helped. 73 CB750 I just picked up from FB marketplace. Needs some odds and ends, but is a great base.

Great looking CB750, Eric!

I sent my '87 VFR700 carbs off for a rebuild. Never did this before and am excited for the results. I also bought all new rubber boots and clamps. The person doing the rebuild has a very good reputation, too. Hope to have her back up and running next week.

Also got the clutch hydraulics work done on the Red bike ('90 VFR750) and now finishing some fairing stuff before getting her back out on the road. Will probably flush the brake fluid for the brakes next.

Recently a 2001 Triumph Bonneville fell into my lap for dirt cheap.
It had been sitting for about 10 years. It's probably one of the only times I've ever bought a project that truly "just needs a carb clean"

...And my other bike, a 1971 Triumph Trailblazer 250 which sees more time off the pavement than on it

Nice vintage Bonneville there & a good score, Matt! Love the 250 also - that's a great size for an enduro!

Best of both worlds!
