Quick question - the front tire valve on my '90 VFR750 is not accepting air. I changed out the tire stem and it didn't fix anything.

The old valve stem looked just fine, too.

Also, when I had the stem removed - no air escaped through the stem.

To me, this indicates my stem may be clogged up.

I was going to try and clean it out tomorrow but wanted to run it by the trust first.

Maybe the cause is slime or some such (?)

I was going to try poking a stiff wire through it first to see if it did anything.

Thoughts?

If you were near by I would say bring the wheel over and we can take the tire off and see what the problem is. Looks like you need a new tire anyway.

Thanks, Otto but I got the situation resolved this morning and was able to air the tire up to 42 lbs.

I used a paper clip although nothing appeared to be blocking the airway so all's well that ends well, I say.

Waiting for a clutch m/c rebuild kit now...should be here by Saturday.....

Maybe try to loosen (or remove) the valve core?

Hi Baz,
Do you see any wheel weights on the outside of your rims? My Interceptor has "Beads" on the inside of the tire to balance them. If you have something similar, maybe a bead was clogging the valve stem. Flank

Hi Kerry,

Thanks! All OK now. Not sure what happened but got the tire aired up OK and if it happens again I will remember your suggestion here. Happy Labor Day weekend!

It's much cooler than I am, that's for sure. the Scirocco a seriously fun little car and while pretty rare, definintely findable and worth the investment.

Followup - I started the job this evening and have the old MC and SC removed and soaking in hot water and dish detergent right now. Tomorrow I clean everything up and re-install.

Might take until Saturday to get done because of other responsibilities.

For anyone who hasn't performed any PM on their hydraulics - check out the condition of the interior of both my cylinders....yuk! And the fluid I removed....looks almost like dirty water.

I think recommendation is to flush and change fluid every 2-3 years. Just something to think about......

This is my new braided replacement line!

Small rant that the kit I bought didn't include a new gasket for the slave. My fault for not realizing I'd need one, but seems like every kit should include one. I'll get by on this rebuild but would rather have a new one while "in there".

If you need to hone anything, I’ve found gluing 400 wet to the appropriate diameter round thing: butt-end of drill, brass rod, even wooden pencil and chucking it in a drill motor to work just fine.

Surprised any oem or aftermarket dealer sells rebuild kits for master cylinders.
