Another great race this season!

Really fun when back markers move up.

With Stroll’s father invested in the fashion industry you’d think he could get a good hairstyle.

And congrats to Kvyat both on the track and for his new baby girl. I was not a fan but he’s growing on me.

In all honesty I don't think Hammy deserved the penalty unless there was someone close enough behind to be endangered. I get the raison d'etre for the rule but why no provision for a driver acting in ( their opinion) the best interest of safety? If he went around again in those conditions he may have caused a more serious incident.

I totally agree with you despite disliking Hamilton... Silly penalty.

So what have we learned ?

Vettel isn't "that" washed out
Max really is that good this year (Honda too)
Toto blames the silly costumes and the netflix filming as distractions (?!?!)
Haas should fire both their drivers (Grosjean is too inconsistent and unlucky, Magnussen is a dick that would rather crash than let a teammate through)
Hulkenberg is cursed
Leclerc is still young
Hamilton is human after all
Kvyat and Albon are decent drivers
Stroll shows flashes of being a decent driver twice a year
Gasly will not finish the season at Redbull.. No way... I'd have Albon and Kvyat fight for it ;-)
Oh and Kubica is a hero, one point for Williams driving through that one handed ? Now he should retire because otherwise he's getting his arse kicked by his teammate.

Thinking about this more, I think the penalty might be okay (though still a little unfair). Hamilton lost far less time by diving into the pits AND taking the penalty than going around the track.

The driver you may be racing can also use push to pass in response, or not.

DRS is a joke to the concept of racing. I don’t mind push to pass because it is limited and driver controlled. I would prefer, however, if push to pass went away.
I get your point and you are right. I was just thinking of the idea of enhanced passing being helpful at least for the fans. If the car behind can't get it done, they are in the picture trying. It looks like someone is holding a race instead of a parade.

NASCAR fooled around with the aero package for the Fontana race a couple years ago. The result was something like 90 passes for the lead and over a 1000 passes combined amongst all drivers.

That was a bit over the top but it shows that tweaking sometimes gets positive results if even those results weren't predicted. It wasn't a plate race with the draft a 100 feet long and it wasn't a runaway by Kyle Busch. And no P2P or DRS.

And based on what you wrote, Bottas is just as forgettable as ever.

Good point, I didn't think of that.

Missed this race result...

Kubica got a point for tenth place. Good for him, and I'm not being sarcastic.

For sure. Two of the dumbest drivers out there.

There are way too many talented drivers out there to keep those Bozos around.

A genuine race.

Great strategy call for the victors and execution for the winning driver.

Hamilton had to actually race and fight for it today. It was not a typical cruise or parade.

Mercedes strategy with Hamilton was brilliant they are a very confident team . Did Bottas seal his fate today ? Is an announcement imminent that Ocon will be in the seat next year ? Ferrari still a mess but Vettel quietly has two podiums back to back . Kimi had a nice race and I was disappointed in Renault , Danny Ric had the latest spec this and that and was painfully slow . Team Haas continues to struggle .

I hope this doesn't seal Bottas' fate. His wing was damaged by LeClerc's move. He drove the best race that he could.

Good to see a little bit of racing in the event. Mercedes just toys with everyone else, basically enacts “ push to pass” at the end by changing the settings for Hammy. Would like to see Max in a Mercedes,
However, after watching the 3 hour IMSA race that came down to an almost photo finish and a surprising watchable NASCAR race at Walkins Glen I rank the F1 race third in watch ability for the day. We now get it excited in F1 for what the should be doing all the time, actually racing.

My opinion, your mileage may vary
PS - bring back Hobbs, Machete, and the other guy . The screaming whiney Englishmen annoy and I have to turn the volume down for the fake excitement

Hobbs quick wit and Machetes technical prowess are sorely missed. And I agree today's IMSA race was enjoyable to watch .

The IMSA race was outstanding. I agree that Diffey and Fish are an ear piercing combination. Hobbs and Machette are past their prime. Listen to Machette and Formula E. And be ready for a nap.

Not a HAM fan but I was rooting for them because it was a gutsy strategy call that didn't look as obvious at the time as it did in the end. Great high-G chess...

I can't get over how good the Honda engine is now, the Alonso curse struck again. I was hoping Helmut Marko would have egg on his face (and his one eye) but it's clearly not happening, and it's great for Honda and F1 in general.

I'm not sure Ocon would be much better than Bottas ina support role, but there seems little risk in trying and he's younger so better for the future possibly...

Gasly sealed his fate being mediocre vs Max again. Ricciardo must be starting to question his choices.

I wish (dream on) Ricardo would move to Haas, and get Ocon or Botas either and fire the two idiot drives HAAS has now.

I want Haas to succeed as much as anyone and I am not a fan of either current driver. They both have displayed red mist stupidity especially this year . But the bigger issue is the car , there is something wrong with it. When the team principal admits he is baffled that is bad . To me that means there is no consensus within the engineering group. When you have to go back to the original chassis that you started with in Melbourne that is a very bad sign . I hope they can figure out the chassis Dynamics then they can work on replacement drivers .
