From what I heard, the screech cause the ground crew nausia and folks could hear it from miles away. It was a aviation experiment by see how fast you could spin up a prop and to see if it could be used at high airspeeds. I think the prop was so powerful it actually started to spin the airplane. But it caught my attention because its unusual and kind of cool.

well props alreayd torques planes long before this.
Mustangs and what not had HUGE propellors and massive torque
on take off you have to already adjust the roll and rudder trim and be very careful when applying power cause prop would torque the plane right back in the ground
it would simply rotate over on the left wheel and ground loop

P-factor if I remember correctly. Still, that plane must have been spooky flying over populated areas and cities. Ah, Merican ingenuity at its best. I would have love to buzz some folks in that thing. LOL! Heh-heh. It resides in a mesuem of aviation, a true wonder. I think only 2 companies made model kits for it, shame, its a freaky bird.

Very cool we were there at the same time. The bars around 32nd Street were epic, not that your Pops knew anything bout that

The A-1 Skyraider had unbelievable torque roll. Carrier based.

Yeah, throttle changes on final to the deck , it'll get you to the snot locker real quick when low and slow and for some reason need to apply full power and go around..
Piston engines spool up way faster then jets and that torque on an empty sky rader, low on gas.. would be even worse

At least it will roll away from the Bridge/Island, But It's no fun for the LSO's

The last class to fly the T-28 Trojan in USN primary flight training was in 1984 - we all tried to get into that squadron at Whiting Field.

It was a beast compared to the turbine engine T-34C - a really nice airplane but lets be honest:

This (not me):

Or this, my Mom and I:

Missisipi to Martha's Vinyard to collect a vintage BMW bike
You gotta wonder , that was no enlisted airman who came up with that idea..
You would think it was either the CO of the 53rd Weather Recon, or the Base commander who ordered that flight. Most likely Career suicide at this point?

The turbine model is cheaper than a new Ford F-150.

I was very lucky to get almost an hour in an Army OH-6 Cayuse that belonged to the Maryland Air Guard. This was in 1988 and we traded flights with them.

Giggle fest with the doors off.

Then back to the so slow Huey ....which i sort of love, the Harley of the air for sure.

No not at all
The little ones are pucker exacting
the bigger is almost a nonevent.
R22, Rotorways, and the like in a real emergency you have to have almost a cat-like reflex.
The Huey is oh, ok here we go again.
The larger the rotor system the better.
At least up to a Chinook, after that IDK.

I did the pre-flight with the Army pilot. I had 200 or so hours in flight school in Jet Rangers, not a big helo at all: The span, cord and length of the OH-6 tail rotor was amazing in terms of tiny.

Jet Ranger big!
