A fun stop is Oklahoma County John’s Place in Arcadia, Oklahoma. It’s a few miles east of the round barn.

The historic moment captured in 1972 when Apollo 17 entered lunar orbit, featuring Commander Eugene Cernan's awe-inspiring commentary as they observed the Command Module, America, in a spectacular dive angle towards the lunar surface. The anticipation and detailed observations of the landscape, such as Poppie crater, added to the significance of this Apollo mission. Credit goes to NASA for preserving this extraordinary moment in space exploration history.

Nope nope nope.

My Amazon wish list order finally arrived!

The short-faced bear is an extinct ancient bear that lived in North America 11,000 years ago. They were extremely large bears, weighing more than 1 ton (1000 kg) and standing up to 12 feet (3.7 m) tall. Despite their enormous stature, the bear could run up to 40 miles per hour (64km per hour).

Karakoram Highway connecting Pakistan to China
Known as the "Friendship Road" by the Chinese, this highway connects Pakistan to China through the Karacorum ridge. Cross the Khunjerab Pass at an altitude of 4,964 meters (second highest in the world).
Its construction was given in 1959 and it was completed after 27 years of construction. Karakoram is an incredible feat of engineering, stretching 1300 kilometers across three mountain ranges in the Himalayas and Hindukush.

Did you know there are 8 different species of Oak in the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma? The dominant ones are the Post Oak and the Blackjack which form the Cross Timbers. Other oaks include Bur, Mohr, Chinkapin, Shumard, Live Oak, and Black Oak. Bur Oaks grow the largest, both in height and the thickness of their trunk. Oaks produce acorns, a staple in the diet of squirrels, birds, and deer. Acorns are the main food source for many birds during the winter, such as Blue Jays and Woodpeckers. Some of the Oaks on the Refuge are over 300 years old – which takes us to before the American Revolution and beyond!

Add autofocus to that kit and you have a Contax G1/G2. You'd have to put up with Zeiss lenses, though... I shot some photos with a G2, then assembled a fairly complete G2 kit in black (much more valueable), including the little silver metal case. Film is a hassle, so I never got back to it, but I'd like to.

There really is something special about film. Sigma cameras have a more film-like Foveon sensor, but they're a little awkward. Here's a couple I took with a G2:

The "Rock that Believes Itself a Wave" in Australia's Hyden Wildlife Park is an extraordinary stone wave. Standing at 15 meters high and stretching 110 meters long, it forms the north side of Hyden Rock within the beautiful nature reserve. Over sixty million years, wind and water erosion uncovered this wave-shaped marvel, revealing vibrant colors from spring water deposits. Composed of ocher, gray, and red hues, it transforms with the day and season. Geologists trace its scientific origin back 2.7 billion years, adding an intriguing twist to this natural wonder.(over half the age of the Earth).

Well armed kitty.

A volcanic embankment or igne intrusion is a geological formation where molten rock, often from a volcanic source, cuts through and invades pre-existing rock layers.
This intrusion usually occurs in a vertical or near-vertical orientation.

Working on the 300K miles video for my Wrangler and stumbled on this Google Earth plot of a route we drove in Oklahoma a couple years ago. This is most of the OK section of the TransAmerica Trail (TAT). It is generally considered the most boring stretch of the TAT. Which is understandable when you consider what lies to the west (Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, with brief forays into New Mexico and Nevada ).
My friend, Mike, and I modified the route to take in some interesting sights along the way. We turned this into a six day adventure with elements that go beyond driving, cooking and camping. If you're interested in the route, you can buy the OK TAT .gpx file directly from the TAT creator, Sam Corerro here (it's only $8 and supports his decades-long work to create, maintain and add to the route) ...
https://www.transamtrail.com/maps/
You shouldn't have any problem creating the side-trips. I used Google Maps and the procedure I have documented in the group files section on how to create .gpx file. You may even come up with your own great side-trips, which would be cool should you choose to share. Here is a three and a half minute teaser video of our trip, if you're interested in running this route yourself ...
