New Razor

I've used every multi-blade disposable Gillette, cheap disposable, several top of the line Brauns, a safety razor (Merkur blades are the best) and a straight razor and none of them have worked on my face the way I needed them too. I loved the straight razor but shockingly that didn't cure one of the issues I have with shaving and that is somehow, tiny shaven hairs get stuck back in the skin. Have very sensitive skin too. Razor is aluminum.

Have only used it for a week but this new design safety razor really works. Super comfortable, extremely smooth, doesn't feel like shaving, just removing lather. I use regular Aveeno shaving cream, very thin layer. Will try brush and soap next week.

I use bic disposable razors. Single blade!

I can't see the point in twin blades. Cutting the hairs too short so they are below skin level. That's asking for trouble.

Something that I kno about!

I shave in the shower with a Merkur safety razor.

It is the only thing that has worked well for me.

1. Hot water on my face
2. First soap, then a little conditioner for lubricity
3. Shave with the grain or all hell breaks out. I have a unique pattern that took me forever to learn.

I use some cheap Russian blades (sharp!) and don’t think the razor really matters too much. I could be wrong there. Haven’t experimented.

My life changed when I tried my first powered blade razor. I'm a fan of the Gillette Fusion Proglide series.

I don't think I've had a single drop of blood in 10 years since switching over. I can shave forwards, backwards, sidewards, inside outwards, and never draw blood. In fact, I normally DO shave in several directions, one after the other. Waterproof, shave in the shower.

The only problem with them is that once the first battery runs out, they tend to start dying faster and faster. Once the factory waterproof seal is broken for the battery compartment, they never seem to seal as well again. Mine live in the shower so they're always wet, probably not a problem if you don't let them get wet like that.

Man, I switched to a safety razor about 2 year ago and don't plan to ever come back. I bought a 200 pack of feather blades for $42 (just checked my Amazon order) and finally had to buy some more in February. That means I changed blades every 3 or 4 days on average, got a much better shave than I ever did from the mach 3 or mach 5 or whatever the latest craziness is, and it cost $42. Suck it Gillette.

I use the exact same one. Will never switch. I change the batteries no problem though. Obviously it's like changing the oil in a tractor. You have to clean it up before opening.

I use Persona triple blade disposable razers. They are sold under own brand labels in major supermarkets. Couple that with Barbasol sensitive shaving cream( which I have to buy in the US and bring home with me- no complaints. I shave after my shower. A doctor friend told me years ago that one shouldn't shave until you have been out of bed for at least half an hour, by which time the face has resumed it's daytime shape, so I altered my morning routine, and it has eliminated the cuts, ingrowing hair etc. If I shave too soon after getting up because I am going for an early flight or competing in an Autosolo with notoriously early scrutineering, then I do risk shaving nicks but it might be explained by being only half awake

I use an (evil) Gillette Mach 3. It has the right balance of size and flexibility for me. I tried one of the trendy single blade, made in the USA razors, but it was too time consuming to get good results in the chin area so I bailed. I may try one again in the future.

I have to shave with the grain or else all hell breaks loose. I found that too much pressure also leads to ingrown hairs.

Switched to a Merkur safety razor and Persona blades years ago. I used a brush and fancy shave stuff for a while, then discovered Cremo shave cream. Best shave I've ever had. Takes no more time than the old Mach 3 and goo in a can shave.

I do two passes usually, first with the grain, then once across. If I go against the grain *shudder* it sucks for a month!

Cremo shave cream is a great product and will drastically improve your shave. Avoid the menthol version.

Merkur safety with Merkur blades. Brush and Proraso. Occasionally a straight razor. Yep it is better than the multiblade crap

Looks like the one my dad used 40 some odd years ago.

I was "shaving" with one like that when I was 5 years old. Dad would have his and I'd have mine. Obviously there was no blade in mine but we'd break out the Old Spice cup with the shaving soap, grab the Old Spice shaving brush, slather some foam on our faces and shave.

I switched about 8yrs ago and while I still have a few disable blades that I mainly use when I travel, I won’t ever go back to them permanently. I have hundreds of Feather, Personna, Astra and one of the smoothest in most razors the Gillette 7 o’clock super platinum. I have maybe a dozen of various vintage Gillette twist too open (TTO) and adjustable that I rotate through. But my favorites are the Above The Tie SS razors with various heads. These things are solid and will last multiple life times. I switch between them depending on couple of day stubble, daily or looking for a truly BBS (baby butt smooth) shave.

After a little while you’ll start collecting plenty of shaving creams.

I keep this old leatherman box in the bathroom with a variety of blades to choose. I keep my nice razors and stash of blades in a separate closet away from bathroom humidity.

Based on Shaun's review, I pulled the trigger on a Henson. I've been using it for about two weeks now and am very pleased.

Its has nice balance and is easy to maneuver in tighter and sharper radii places.

It gives good feedback so I know when the razor is at the proper angle.

A blade is lasting 10 shaves so far.
