The enzyme stuff is supposed to remove the smell. Not just for you, but even for the dog. Noticing a dog can sniff someone's shirt two days after their disappearance and then track that person through a forest, in the rain, I have my doubts about those claims. But I have also used it, and it seems to work.

Yup. Take it outside, clean it, rinse it and hang it over the fence for a day.

A plan something like that is coming together. Multiple sites on the internet are recommending a concoction of Dawn detergent and hydrogen peroxide, others are touting the enzyme mentioned here. Mostly good reviews for the enzyme here - thank you. Most of what I read assumes you want to clean the rug but not damage it. This thing is trash if I can’t get the smell out, so damaging it is moot.
I’m going to get medieval with it. I’m thinking:
Throw it upside down on the deck, soak it with the Dawn + hp solution, scrub, rinse with the pressure washer (didn’t think of that, thanks Cliff), turn it over and do the same to the top. Suck the water out with a shop vac, soak it with the pee specific enzyme and let it work for a few hours, blast it again, shop vac it, and let it dry in the sun a few days.
Then I’ll go to work on the carpet (thanks Max).
I’m getting a new pad too, and spraying enzyme on the wood floor.

Retar Dex oral rinse will get the smell out, but it will also dissolve any organic dye.

Odo-Ban may also work, but not sure if it'll bleach a white spot on the rug.

I'll bet we could come up with some lyrics. I know just the music to put it to - "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road"

"Dog peeeee, on a Woolen Carpet."

For those suggesting a dog door. We're talking about a dog who tried to kill a stuffed squirrel. I'm not sure his little pea brain would get the concept of a dog door.

Same here. We live in a rural area but our dog door (large enough for our St. Bernard) let’s them out onto our upper deck. From there they go down a flight of stairs to the fenced portion of the yard. Never an issue with critters...except for the one time one of them brought a dead possum in. Wife screamed, he grabbed it and ran back outside with it.

I don't think Nature's Miracle does much, at least with my dogs.

I appreciate that. But getting rid of the rug would be the the only option I would find acceptable.

Google “Urine Destroyer”

Best of Luck.

Dumb question, but what about renting a Rug Doctor and pouring the stuff they sell to eliminate dog urine in there with the soap?

bottomline, I don't think Natures Miracle works.

I would take that rug out into the yard on a super sunny day and pressure wash it. and hit it with a brush with laundry detergent and pressure wash it again. hail mary time!
I agree. That spray does not work.

Go to Lebowski's house and pick out any rug you want.

Sorry don't know US brand names but good carpet cleaner odor removers containing bacteria will remove the smell. Johnson might make one, as they bought bacteria concentrate from the same US supplier that I imported to the UK and sold to formulators for products for use in nursing homes for urine that got onto carpets and similar for use by pet owners

I have a dog(s) that pee into each other’s food bowls, so it was an uphill battle. It is pretty funny when the poodle’s bowl has been disrespected, though. It’s almost like a message has been delivered. I replaced the carpet in the only room that had it, so it’s easy to spot an accident.

Send a message via AIM to vash
just to clarify.

I have never ever sprayed Natures Miracle on a spot and experience my dog sniffing the area and NOT pee there. hose it down!!

I think it removes the smell (maybe) so it is better for us humans, but a dog still smells it.

Dawn is actually pretty harsh. I had an oriental that was more or less covered with dog poo (good girl but was very sick). Woolite and a pressure washer in the driveway worked wonders-use the broadest tip you can. Its easier if you can get the rug off the driveway to rinse all the way thru, but it'll work either way. Sunshine for a day also helps.
