That's a cool model for sure.
I watch a YouTube channel called "hpiguys workshop" and he has built a lot of big rigs. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

This is a diecast model car that was in my brother-in-law's collection that is not a nascar model.
This was from a series by Racing Champions called "Hot Rockin' Steel Die Cast" where the cars would have a rock and roll theme and artwork from a specific band. This one is the Doors, Morrison Hotel 1969 Camaro. I cleaned it up and took pictures of it with my original copy of the Doors, Morrison Hotel album. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

So, I didn't like the way this car sat up a little high in the front, I wanted it to have a more realistic stance so...I fixed it. This diecast is made by Action and has actual coil springs in the front suspension so I simply cut out a couple of coils to drop the front end down a little just like with a real car!!!

Forgot to add. I also removed the exhaust pipes and trimmed a mounting pin off of them in order to tuck the pipes a bit closer to the chassis and I changed the color of them from silver to a flat steel color and added some black to simulate exhaust openings.

I guess I am just never really satisfied, lol. I was looking at this car and thought the interior was too orange looking when it is supposed to red. The dash and the panel below the rear window are black in the real car also, and so I decided to paint things for a more accurate and realistic appearance. I still have a little more detailing to do with the seat and I want to add some black detail to the roll cage as well.

Looking good Hobie!
Correct livery decals are next for these HO scale IROC racing 917/30, 935s and IMSA Camaros painted to match the lane colors on the slot car track.

I found these Tyco HO scale slot cars at a thrift store back in the mid 90s. I've never run them because I don't have a HO scale slot car track. I do have a 1/43 scale Carrera track and an Eldon 1/32 scale track.

More interior detail. The interior was originally an orange color and just looked like a toy. The real car had a red interior with black seat and a little bit of aluminum on the side panels. Including reference pics.

So I had a brainstorm. The roll cage in that Earnhardt car did not have the thicker portions simulating padding so I just painted the parts black where padding would have been. Now I am thinking of putting some sort of shrink wrap tubing on those parts to make it look like the real thing. Yeah, I'm just OCD like that sometimes. Lol.

These are actually made of resin. I have around 500 model cars and only 3 of them are diecast now.
While they don't have the heft of diecast models or openable parts, the detailing on them is incredible inside and out. Not too bad of a tradeoff to me!
