2022 Honda Civic
Looking at the new hatchback. Can't decide if I like the new one.
Looks taller, less angles, and more modern...price is better than expected. Any opinions? https://news.yahoo.com/honda-presents-dynamic-civic-hatchback-000000453.html

Usually I'm all in with Honda's, but I just don't like CVT's and won't punish myself with a stick shift again. My left knee would never forgive me.

I have never owned a cvt. I would prob pick the 6 speed manual. My knee is good...so far!
My other Hondas are both manuals....Fit and Prelude. Neither seem to need excess pressure for the clutch.

You’ll probably get the requisite “appliance” comments, but there is nothing not to like about that car.

^^^ Thanks. I expect that...but for me, it checks all the boxes, plus I love Hondas!
From mtr/cycles in the 60's to cars in the 80's and up..they have all been great.

If I’m going to buy a hatch, I want a usable hatch…think Golf shaped…not a Panamera shaped hatch that cuts down on usable cargo volume.

Most of my problem was caused by driving a BMW and then a Mustang GT HO 5.0. Our Honda's never had 'heavy' clutches either, but the repetitive motion of driving the 405 FWY around the South Bay curve for 25 yrs worth of commuting added up.

^^^ yellowline
I looked at a new Civic Hatch today. I currently own a Fit. The hatch on the civic was as big an opening as the Fit...the only exception is that the new Civic doesn't use the 'magic seats' that the Fit has. They don't disappear into the floor.

^^^ I can honestly say...in the Hondas that I've owned...3 Preludes, 1 Accord, 1 Fit....never had a problem more than normal maintenance.
That covers 30 years for the cars. The mtr/cycles were the same. A 305 (only the old timers remember that one) a 175 Scrambler, CL 350, CB750, and a 900 dual tranny.

The Fit is more of a cube and may be better than the new Civic in this way. Last edited by yellowline; 06-29-2021 at 04:03 PM.. |

Put the new Toyota Corolla hatchback next to that and I think the Honda looks pretty pedestrian.
Now... Go Type R and you're talkin! Those things are cool.

I am not a fan of Honda quality. I have a 2008 Civic. It is falling apart because I park it outdoors. All the rubber trim around the windows and doors is crumbling. Strips of it tear off as I drive on the highway. The door lock on the driver's door has worn out--the discs inside the mechanism will no longer recognize my key. I have never had that happen on any car. The door stops haven't worked for years. I have to hold a door open with a leg or foot, or else it closes automatically.
The motor and transmission are fine (after they replaced the engine block at 9.5 years due to fine cracks leaking out coolant). But the rest of the car is not so quality-made.

Was using an Element as a company vehicle a few years back. Really enjoyed driving that thing. Lots of space with the seats removed. Also had an '89 Accord hatchback with a 5 speed. Previous owner lowered it and put on Konis. VERY fun car to drive. All I ever did was the timing belt and the water pump. Got out of a ticket once because the cop wrote it down as an Acura Integra.

It's a shame my mom wasn't around to see the latest Civic. She was nuts about them.
Probably a fantastic car, but it looks a bit long and low. What I like about every other Honda hatch is you can work out what can fit in the back, then almost double that when you come to fit everything in. |

This is interesting, I have a 2006 Civic Si coupe, first release of this generation. Outside of the paint which was covered under recall but I think because my car lived in the garage during the first years didn’t show any issues, it has gotten worse in the 2nd half of its life living outside. Beyond that it’s basically maintenance items and little things from age. This past summer the headliner started to droop, probably from the long Texas summer with the tail end facing west getting afternoon/evening sun. And my driver door lock does cry a bit when locking but mainly because I’m lazy to pull the panel to lube it. Outside of that it has been abused for the 154k miles. I had to replace the clutch after I cracked the trans bell housing going off road at a beach parking space, didn’t see that the pavement was about a 12inch drop to the sand…that hurt hearing the whole body slam on the pavement. But because I was moving fast enough slide off to continue into the sand parking. I’ve been keeping eye out on the new restyle, much cleaner and more pedestrian than the ugly ass plastic fake intakes front and rear of the previous gen. God that was so damn ugly and the fact that ugly was mirrored front and back you had to see it coming and going! If I was to upgrade it’ll be for the next Si and it will only come with a 6spd. The only negative I have is that it’ll likely be turbo charged and direct injected with all the nannies. I love my port inject, no fuel dilution issues motor and having a car with just ABS. I’m torn with keeping old cars that you drove or moving into the 21st century with a car that your just a passenger. CTopher |
