I have people say they want to buy my Unimog, their mouth drops a bit when I tell them the price is just about $200k! Which is what it is worth, in today's money in its current condition. Most think they can buy one for Under $20k. The county I live in is buying a new one, price is over $500k!

Have been followed home a few times when riding a classic Harley and flying the 911 around. I always 'carry' so normally that's a good feeling. I simply said they were not for sale and recommended they shop elsewhere. Before I left the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia I was getting the house ready for sale and twice some Chinese types pulled up, normally in a "Rex-us" wearing 'Roh-lex's" and asked how much cash for the house. One actually opened up his trunk and showed me two brief cases full of money. I just said no thanks but maybe the retired ATF agent next store might be interested. End of story.

I'm not too familiar with deals involving 50k cash...
In this country (New Zealand) I don't think we are meant to do cash deals over $10,000. It's to stop drug dealers banking their cash sales. |

I've had plenty of notes under the windshield wiper (one time when parked in my own driveway) and a handful of people approach me at the gas pump etc but never had anyone act this aggressively or flash actual cash right there, that's a new one.

Too big to fail

I get that frequently, particularly when I'm driving one of my VWs - these people have been watching too much American Pickers and Barrett-Jackson.
Once I sent an email to one of those sites that's constantly spamming to buy early Porsche, Mercedes, etc. I sent them some older pix of my 1952 VW bug from when I first got it - it was kinda crusty and dirty (with the exif data carefully removed). I cam eup with a backstory that I got it from a relative that died, yada yada yada. He offered me $3500 - CASH.

I would sell anything I own for the right price. I’m just not that attached to material items.

About how I feel, too. Except for items I've promised to one of my kids. My word to them is worth more than money to me.

My uncle has a 60's vintage Jeep sitting out at the farm. Occasionally some stranger will ask if he wants to sell it. He says it's his nephew's who's serving in Iraq/Afganistan/etc. Not true but it stops all negotiation dead in it's tracks.

They absolutely do this. Buy up cars and sell them. I hate the unsolicited offers. I nearly got in a fight with someone in our driveway one time when I refused to give them a price on a car I was working on. The dumb bastard just couldn’t understand when I said, it’s not my car and it’s not for sale 🙄🙄🙄 |

Happens all the time when it's parked outside my independant repair shop. I told them to call me if >100 and the guy looks serious ;-) Seriously 50 was a lowball offer, nice car. 75 minimum.

It's probably close to a $100K car, isn't it Skip?
At any rate - I've gotten handwritten notes in my mailbox asking if I wanted to sell my '83 SC Targa that used to sit under a tarp on the front drive. Amazing people know the car by it's shape! Also a couple guys stopped by and made an offer without even knowing anything about it, other than it's a 911. I don't think there was anything wrong on how you handled things, FWIW. Lot of critics in the peanut gallery here....

If it was a 911S it would be upwards of 150-200k according to NADA.
My lowly 911T shows this from NADA: Values Original MSRP $7,985 Low Retail $33,000 Average Retail $53,300 High Retail $87,900 Seahawk is ballpark close, still No deal! I like it, I can work on it, I only have to ask for John Walker's help now and then, I'm keeping it! Unless someone has an extra 911S emblem cheap.
