Kimber 1911 stainless Gold Match II in .45
I’m trying to sell a power saw and a guy has offered me the above gun, as a trade. I’ve got literally no interest in the gun, nor do I follow that market, I just want cash.
Any idea what I can get for it, in cash, today? I’m really not wanting to trade for something else that I have to spend a week or two selling, I just want to dump it and be done. I’ve asked him for pictures and history on it, for whatever good that will do. Any wisdom from the forum gun nuts would be appreciated. I’m in Dallas Texas, I don’t even have any idea what the gun laws are like down here. |

I suspect putting it in your name would be a hassle, just to sell it on. How about calling a few local gun dealers and see what they would give him for it, then he passes the money on to you? You'd get wholesale money, but you're not a retail buyer, anyway.

They list on Gunbroker for $1000 so figure 30% off that at least in a private sale.
If the guy is local, I agree with Steve. Do not make this your problem - the Kimber could be hot. https://guides.sll.texas.gov/gun-laws/buying Edit: And SM!

Is there any website you can go to to check if a gun is hot? You can do that for cars and motorcycles, do they have something like that set up for guns?

Not sure in Texas. Call the local PD and let us know what they say. I would still heed the advice that you want to hold the cash, not the Kimber. BTW, Kimber's are a tricky pistol to evaluate depending on the year of manufacture. They had issues for a period of time with quality control.

Yeah, I called a local gun dealer to see what the rules in Texas were. I can’t even sell the thing to a gun dealer until I get a Texas drivers license. I haven’t done that yet because my Oklahoma license was just renewed and you have to book an appointment to get a Texas license, months in advance. Haven’t done that yet.
All things considered, it’s not worth the hassle. The gun might be worth more than the saw I’m selling, on a good day, but then again it may not and I don’t need the hassle. Thanks for the info gents. |

DMV here is an absolute shyteshow. I know very few people, like 2-3/10, that managed to pull it off with just one trip.

Seahawk is correct on the resale part. I get pistols awarded from time to time by the courts in addition to fees on criminal cases.
Last one I sold to a gun shop the clerk literally looked up recent auctions on Gunbroker.com and offered me 70% of what he saw online. Math not being my strong suit, I had to ask him what that translated to in dollars. All that said, I would be concerned about whether it is stolen before I would take it.

Yeah, when I looked into it after getting here they were booking appointments 4-6 months out. I just drove back to Oklahoma and got mine renewed. It’s ridiculous.

That small town office did try and kick people out at the door by screening you for necessary paperwork.

You'd think the paperwork is a no brainer, just follow the list. Never seems to work that way. And they do not have nearly enough staff which is super frustrating. The local office I use also has the Tax Office in it. For non Texans licensing is separate from vehicle registration / tilting, all handled by the Tax Office. Anyway, the Tax Office is always nearly empty. You can show up any time of day and be in and out in 10 minutes. Licensing, they start lining up at 6:00 am. If you show up when they open you are in for an easy 4 hour wait in line. Show up at 10:00 and they won't even bother letting you get on line because they know they won't get to you. Meanwhile there are a half dozen people next door in the Tax Office picking their noses. You'd think it was a no brainer that some staff resource reallocation would help things but seemingly no one's gotten the memo.

It’s not a big deal to title a car down here,, after you have jumped through the hoops of having it inspected for emissions, which is a joke… So the drivers license thing surprised me. |

Separate Dept's. I know, shouldn't matter but it does.

If you don't want a firearm, it is not a good idea to accept one as "currency"............

The only case today wherein it is worth it to include a firearm in any kind of a deal is if you specifically want that firearm. They are no longer the ready bartering chips they once were.

I’ve been downsizing and selling off unneeded crap in my life for going on 13 years now and I am sick to death of selling stuff. Whole lotta flakes in this world… The first guy I was selling the saw to was picking it up at 7:15 this morning, until he decided not to. I imagine he got on the Internet and crusty old farts filled his head full of crap that’s not relevant and now he doesn’t want this saw. Never mind that he’s a newbie, going to do newbie stuff with it and it will both do that and outlast him. So the next guy on the list is the guy that offered the gun. I considered it briefly, in the event that it might be possible to get rid of the saw and have cash in hand more quickly than waiting for the next jackass to inquire about it. As a bonus, there is a small chance it was worth more than I was asking for the saw, to compensate me for my trouble. Not knowing anything about it, I entertained the possibility, albeit only briefly. So now I am talking to Jackass three, although I’ve told Jackass two that if he wants to bring me cash, he can have a saw. Although, if any of you nuts needs one of these guns, I can maybe hook you up. |

Well, I’m sure you did, anyway. Before you went day sailing on Puget Sound, and the wind came up in the afternoon and the boat capsized and all was lost. But, at least you have the memories. Last edited by javadog; 09-08-2022 at 09:56 AM.. |

Then my annual sticker I either get online or from HEB for $0 fee. So long as you are doing it before the end of the actual expiration month HEB is your friend. They have the stickers right at the customer service window (right where you get your Powerball ticket)
