They are mostly worthless .... I removed mine and put an over-the-range microwave there instead. The microwave has that same built in, totally worthless fan/venting too .... never used it.

Our gas cook top with 5 burners as a real vent straight up to outside, right up a small tube like the furnace has. It has a flapper in it that opens up when the fan is blowing. The tube has a chimney like cap to keep birds or squirrels and rain out.
Our oven is electric and on a separate wall with the microwave above the oven.

NBC News had a segment on the 'gas stove controvery' this morning.
The reporter used an induction stove to boil a large pot of water to show how fast it happens. He then moved the boiling water to the side and immediately placed his bare palm on the spot where the pot was.(without burning his skin)

"Cooking with gas stoves creates nitrogen dioxide"
"During 2019 alone, almost two million cases worldwide of new childhood asthma were estimated to be due to nitrogen dioxide pollution.” "linked to childhood asthma" I hate this sort of "chained conclusion" without proof nonsense. Where does most of this gas come from? Cars, busses, trucks, boilers, and powerplants. NOT your stove.

They "solved" that in Illinois by requiring them have 10 year batteries that, of course, are not replaceable.

Don't worry, our here, gas appliances will be outlaw soon. I am in the process of building house (rental) in the city of Torrance. All the new reg has made my head spin. According to the plumbing inspector, my 30 gal water heater isn't allowed and a tankless is a must. Not only that, I must buy one that is designed to be installed near windows due to the limited wall space we have. Its just more money. Dumb of me to put in large window
.I decided to install 220v to the stove, and the water heater as back up along with gas. I piped in gas. After final inspection, the 30 gal heater goes right back in its originally planned space. Tankless is nothing but trouble and maintenance issues for a rental. Oh yeah, no more harmful earth shattering fuel released into the atmosphere but eclectic is so clean that its must be fine.

I’ve had asthma all my life. The gas cooktop issue must be retroactive, because I didn’t have one until about 15 years ago.

What if someone stuck their hand on that!? That's it - Ban anything that can boil water. - It's just too dangerous. And fire obviously needs to be entirely banned in all its forms. BTW, I lost all of my gas appliances in a freak boating accident. Hello Easy-Bake Oven! Wait, this won't work with LEDs

A housing inspector demanded that I hard wire the smoke and O2 sensor where as building and safety do not for older buildings. He didn't give a damn about the building and safety people. He wouldn't let me off in my rentals. That means, permit, dedicated line to sensor and daisy chain all of them together within each units. You see the cost there just to satisfy those law making azzholds. |

While a gas stove would use a fraction of a penny's worth of gas to heat the same pot. A small fraction. Induction stoves are expensive to buy, install (if you need to run 240v wiring) and expensive to use. |

I'm sure these guys are just a bunch of know nothings but .... https://www.energystar.gov/about/2021_residential_induction_cooking_tops "The per unit efficiency of induction Cooking Tops is about 5-10% more efficient than conventional electric resistance units and about 3 times more efficient than gas. "

I like a induction stove. They are cool but only work with a certain type of pots and pans. I would buy one for myself |
