My experience wasn't so happy...but I had to complicate things by adding macular degeneration and glaucoma into the mix. Surgeon said I had "fragile corneas"...recovery took weeks and was pretty painful with "drops-drops-drops". Final result, still wear glasses, can still drive, but could no longer "see the spot" on an object ball...so gave up pool playing...it was just too damned painful to be a guy who could run an occasional rack to become a guy who was lucky to make 3 balls in a row.
Colors did become more vibrant, and the world definitely got brighter. I'm happy for the guys who are enjoying the new vision with operations that went well.

Had one eye done a few months ago. Anyone else have a slight "wateryness" that persists at the edge of your vision? Still worth it for sure, can't believe how blue the sky is!
Easy peasy. Oral sedative and anesthetic drops in the eye. Whole op procedure was 20 minutes. Was in an out in 2 hours.

Just had my left eye done last Friday (3 days ago). Chose the mono lens because I have heard many stories of "Halos" with the multi focal lenses. I don't mind wearing glasses for distances. Yes, I was awake. Slight anesthesia and eye numbing. Actual process took 2 hours, actual procedure took 5 minutes. I can see better than before today already, but it was still cloudy yesterday. Not 100% yet either. Right eye seems OK so far.

Cataract surgery is very low risk.
What impressed me was the overall positive climate at Wilmer. When you see it for two days you know it is real. I am more than certain there are any number of great places to get done what I had done. That is a blessing for us all. That was the real intent of my post...I just got the survey from Wilmer: Is Piss Poor one word or two?

I noticed purple and violet and blue were more vivid. I had the procedure done to correct severe myopia, and I have no regrets. Some days I'm seeing at a 20-15 level, which is extraordinary. Though i do miss the super power of myopia once in a while.
Funny story -- I was excited to have the procedure done so I could swim without any difficulty, and I was particularly looking forward to "seeing" under water. I was disappointed when I found out that seeing under water wasn't as clear as I expected -- I always thought people with "good eyes" saw the same way I did when I wore goggles. I did end up with a partial retinal tear about six months after the surgery . . . I had all the risk factors, and it was unlikely due to the procedure. Don't ignore anything worrisome like flashes, a shadow, or increased floaters. That procedure was far worse than the lens exchange, and far required a much lengthier recovery. |

No “halos” for me with the multi focal lenses. Effect was immediate. We have a long view across a golf course and the afternoon of the procedure I kept sitting there putting my hand over one eye and then the other, marveling at the difference. What used to look like a blob of trees in the distance was all individual trees with the “good” eye. The Dr told me once I had the first one done, I wouldn’t want to wait the 2 weeks for the second one and he was right. I also have been taking eye drops for pre glaucoma (pressure in the eyes) for years. During the cataract procedure, he put in little drains to reduce pressure (paid for by Medicare). Pressure is down too. Best money I ever spent. Wonder when they’ll come up with something so I don’t have to wear hearing aids!

Update.
Holy smokes, 18 days in and sticking to the protocals and the vision improvement is becoming real in ways I really could not have imagined. ZOO hit it on the money in a previous post. I had some minor "cloudy" issues at the end of week one and the Dr. said, "Have you been following the checklists". ![]() "Dr., I track the date and times of every item on the checklist...application of drops, pressures, I wear a scuba mask in the shower, etc." Which I emailed him. "Oh." He added "artificial tears" to the list and the results, knock wood, have be excellent:, and, yes, I log every application by time and date. If you are on the fence, fall to the side of finding the right folks to do the surgery.

Reprise.
Had the right eye done yesterday, headed back for the day after surgery after hoops. Amazing. No glasses for everyday, just some cheaters for working on the computer if needed. I started wearing glasses forty years ago!

My wife gets her first eye done in a couple of weeks by the same guy that did mine. Hoping her results are as good as mine. Unbelievable technology!

I have an appointment to get both eyes done on April 3rd. That can't come too soon. I can still see OK but the fuzziness, glare, and poor adjustment when going from bright to dim environments is really getting to me. If they can clear those things up, I don't care if I still have to wear reading glasses or not.

Update.
If you get the surgery and need “cheaters” go here: https://www.thinoptics.com/ I went with their Pince-nez for reading and it may be the best thing I have ever bought…no kidding.

My wife got her first one done this past Wednesday. Recovery is much longer than mine was…still using readers for close up but getting better daily. Reading was tough for me for the first month or so without extra light but that corrected itself with time. My wife got me this for reading that first couple of months:

Every 2 years or less I get blurred vision in my right eye. I visit an ophthalmologist and they prescribe a steroid eye drop and some matching pills + eye lid cleaner and a night time antibiotic thick eye lubricant. This January I got it again and the Dr. did some scans and cataract was added to the verbiage. I am totally bummed. Now after the rounds to stuff I mentioned in the opening my eyes are much better. As of January I no longer wear contact lenses (soft) and am 100% on glasses. The change has been remarkable. I see much better and am not as sensitive to bright light as I was as a FT contact lens user. I have a very dark visor on my Arai helmet and get far better results now with glasses.
Wow that was a long intro...if you are still with me thanks! I am terrified about eye surgery. Losing my vision would be worse than losing my hearing or taste, even a limb or two. My fear is why I never got corrective Lasic surgery all these years. Can someone clue me in on what the risk factor is for cataract procedure? I am not a candidate yet but the Dr says it will be on my horizon. Terrified of that on my path. Thanks. |

When - those who had it - did you know it was time?
Have increased blurring in one eye and a “you are going to need cataract surgery at some point” diagnosis at the last visit in December. Feel like one eye fell off a cliff in that eye since then, even though my prescription seems to still be working as designed. |

Haven't had it yet, but in less than two weeks. My opthomologist mentioned I was developing cataracts two, maybe three + years ago. I decided to request the surgery when it became an increasing bother. I can tell my eyesight is becoming fuzzier fairly quickly, I'm rapidly becoming more bothered when transitioning from bright to darker environments. It feels my focus lags when I change from looking at something closer to something farther away. Plus the general discomfort of dealing with these things is rapidly increasing. I hope this description will help you make your decision,.
