Got a 2005 987.1 Base with Tiptronic trans.
I test drove a S model and did not feel the performance difference on a streetcar was necessary.
Bought it because it was getting very hot in summer and wasn't enjoying driving my early 911 as much without A/C.
Got it for less than $8,000 with 74,000 miles. now have 119,000 miles.
Just do regular maintenance on it and a Oil change every 5,000
I had a c/v joint book split on it and replaced all 4 about 2 months ago. cost less than $100.
I also had a plastic gear for the convertible top break took me a few years to get around to fixing it. Just raised and lowered it manually.
The 2 trunks carry a lot. I use it to go to Costco.
I don't like that it doesn't have a spare tire. The early models do.
I found Porsche people act differently when you are in the Boxster then when you are in an air-cooled Porsche.
I am used to it riding Sportster at Harley events.
Good to hear the Boxster Love.

Well, if any of you want one, I have an '00 with 63,000M, 2.7 5-speed which is a peach. Guards red over black. It's for sale at a decent price. I've been waiting for the weather to get better across the country before listing on BAT.

AFA my comments go, I too do not find it comfortable and I'm 6' long legged. Head room is generous. The 987 is longer and I wish. But there are a few years difference and price difference.

All the positive comments I agree with. The 2.7 is enough to have plenty of fun and the base model rides a little better. But they are sports car stiff. So for street use, it's a better choice IMO. I wouldn't know how much better a 3.2 with 1" bigger brakes is. If you gotta have the badge, you gotta have the badge.

We had a lot of fun (we meaning my wife mainly). She is ill and the car has been sitting with semi regular use for 5 years. It needs fluids changed and and the tires aged out although they are high rubber. That's it. I do have a PPI.

But this is about the Boxster. As a fun car with great AC and general amenities, if you're not into the bashing thing about chick cars, these are a great testament to Porsche. There's a reason they sold a bazillion of them.

Good afternoon gents......

I've been out working in the garage all morning trying to get better organized. Phone in my pocket but no calls. I check FB just now on the desktop and the seller returned my inquiry saying he'll call me when he gets off work today 4-5, so that's a positive sign.

Stay tuned.....I'm still in the hunt for this one!

Something to mention about a Base unit and an S optioned manual transmissions.

5 speed or 6.

Exception is a Base model with Sports/Chrono option.

My Cayman is a Base with it. 6 speeds and the sport/firm selectable ride is awesome.

So a Base model can still be fun, though I admit I'd really like to replace it with an S.

During a Track day getting waved onto the Hot Course. I was behind a Cayman S, setup very similar to mine. He was let on the track which is at the start of a long straightaway. I left 5-8 seconds later and really tried to catch him.........no way, he was already at the end of the straight as I was beginning and he pulled away from thereafter.

Still I really love my Cayman, you don't see a Blue Porsche very often but lots of Silver Black and Red ones.

Yeah, that’s a sweat cayman. I Sold my GR 996 C4S and bought a 99 base Tip and a 02 S 986 6 speed with $15k left over. I had an S before the 996 and really didn’t notice much of a performance difference. The base yes, the S not so much. Don’t sweat the hairdresser comments. I just think “insecure much”. 😀😀😀. My bud has a 99 with stick, slow but really, really engaging. Can’t go wrong with either. It’s really just a better quality, more comfortable, but heavier Miata of the same generation.

I also really like the blue colors Porsche uses, my 997.2 911 is Aqua Blue Metallic

That Cayman and Boxster above are great.

In 29 years that I have had my 911 I have opened the sunroof three times, and I wish it were not there.

If some fool comes along and pays me above market value for my 911, I would replace it with a Cayman most likely.

Boxsters are get toys, and cheap for the older ones.
I'm a pasty white guy. I don't tan. I live in Texas which has sun similar to FL so between the heat and my propensity to burn, I don't really have any interest in any sort of convertible.

Since 1999, I've had an '88 911 Targa, '97 miata, '04 miata, and '08 Boxster S.

I've had convertibles because those were the best cars that had the driving experience that I wanted at the best price. When I bought my boxster, I drove several Cayman, and would have bought one, but this Boxster was too good to pass up.

Good luck on your quest Baz!
My solution was to get a Boxster with a hard top.

I had a 1972 911, then a 1986 911 that I had for over 10 years. When I still had the ‘86 911, I bought a 2000 Boxster on a whim. It was a base model, lapis blue. Six months into ownership of that Boxster, I sold the 911. I then moved up to a 2004 Boxster S. Also lapis blue. The biggest reason was it had a glass rear window. I would never go back to an air cooled 911 as the Boxster just does everything better.

Thanks Guys. Had my 2007 Blue Cayman for ~5-6 years. It could be for sale at the right price in the upper $20's in North Seattle.

Just totalled my RAV4 2 days ago and cars are getting swapped around. I'll keep my Seal Gray 996 C4S, don't really need 2 pcars.

Higgins can attest to the Blue Car as a valued reference.

Pics are subtly posted as a For Sale Ad.

Oh ye of little faith....lol......

I DID get the call and he said he took the ad off because he didn't want any more inquiries AND because of the way my message was composed he wanted ME to have the car!

So he's driving it here to my house on Monday at 5pm, we will do the deal, and yours truly will be in the Boxster owners club!

That color BTW is called "Speed Yellow".

The seller sounded like a really good guy so I'm pretty stoked on the whole thing.......

Thanks again for all the enabling....er I mean help here, guys.....

Maybe he just pulled in off of a spirited drive. My tires are supposed to be something like 32/37. At speed in hot weather, they sometimes get up to 42-44.

I hope it pans out. Too bad I missed the ad. You will enjoy it. I'm sure you can figure a way to carry your surfboard. With the top down there are a few places for straps to be attached.
