Early engines/nacelles.... F model?
Hard to believe that the youngest of the operational fleet of B-52s is nearly 45 years old.

daepp 06-07-2007 12:30 PM

This one was certainly showing it's age.

On another note, it's hard to convey in photos the immense size of a B-52. For example, the area under the wing looks as big as several houses.

McCaw, you got it.

Never thought I'd ever sit here. This was the plane you dreamed about when I was a kid!
[/B]
The few times I've been there none of the plane were open like that. Are you a VIP or on a special tour?

daepp 06-07-2007 04:59 PM

Apparently they "open up" a couple of times per year.

Craig 930 RS 06-07-2007 07:00 PM

I don't know the results, but I think that run was after the engine rebuild.
Same machine shop that did my engine work - talk about perfectionists.

Pretty cool stuff.

seeing those SR-71 images reminds me that (by chance) I met Ed Beaumont in our tiny hospital here in no where Wisconsin a couple years ago. His story is pretty well known in U2 circles (see his story at: http://www.netwrx1.com/skunk-works/v05.n074). Instead of spy planes, Ed now drives a truck that carries wood to paper mills.... but is lucky to be alive conisidering his story and how many U2 drivers are on the wrong side of the grass today. Ed told me his plane is mounted on a stand outside Beale AFB today. I looked for an image of it but couldn't find one.
