Your girlfriend is half right. Based on some of the statements made in this thread, one could easily substitute in "myopic" and "ignorant" for "tough" and "passionate".

Luckily, I assume you are not presuming to speak for everyone.

From what I've heard, the are $100,000+ in the US. And, most have been modified to put out well over 500 hp. This one sounded modded to me.

Not sure how that one got to Calif. Didn't have plates, though!

Looks fairly low key, but a very serious machine!
THere is a guy in Detroit who imports these and sells them, about $60,000 for a R34 with 55000 miles on it, not bad for the performance that they have. That is my second favorite car in the world. Porsche is #1.

It is unfortunate when members of the Pelican Parts Forum use terms such as "ricer" or "rice" in such a hurtful and caustic manner. That term is just as offensive to a person of Asian ancestry as other ethnic slurs that target Germans, Italians, Polish etc...

Perhaps we should be a little more considerate and avoid such loaded terms in the future.

By the way Nick, your car looks great!

Sincerely,

Mike

This whole thread is idiotic! I love my P-car, I love my new FX4 Level II Ranger, I loved my old Mustang drag car, my old big block short bed truck, I love my friends 944 and my brother-in-laws TVR 2500M. If all I cared about was being the fastest on the street I'd put together another 'Stang with the parts I took off the old one slap on some NOS or a blower and run 1000+ HP but that's not what I (key word I) want. I want a nice daily driver 4x4 and a fun weekend cruiser and I've got them both. The important thing here is not what I think is cool or the best, it's what the person who owns another type of car sees as his/her "dream car" Let's face it, P-cars are great little under powered sports cars. Even modified they can't reach "ricer" or V8 power levels but that's not the point. P-cars are just great little cars out of the box designed for curvy roads and not dragstrips, the V8's will most likely always reign supreme in the HP war because they are just a fantasitic base to build upon and parts are relatively cheap, now try and make a musclecar handle and brake like a sports car and you're wallet will bleed.

To each his own, there is no point in flaming other peoples vehicles. Enjoy your car because YOU like it and let other's enjoy theirs.

Wow. Some of you guys are uber-embaressing.

I would rather have a 73 S than a Skyline GTR, personally, but that doesnt mean I dont respect the car for what it is - a serious performer.

Its basically an AWD Supra... how can you argue with that beyond 'It doesnt have a Porsche crest?'

Give respect where its due before the Nissan guys show up and make fun of our VW's.

Everything else aside, my wife was born and raised in Japan--she's half Japanese--and she calls 'em ricers.

IMHO, if a car has more go than show, it isn't rice.

I love all cars too, especially my '72 Gremlin.

I love my Gremlin.

Here are some photos - note the large trophies!

Just think, at the same time my Gremlin was being hand built in the USA, some Germans were making '72 911s in Stuttgart.

Look at the Gremlin again, and think real hard about what car YOU would like to own.

BR,

Kurt

Why don't you quit whining and read what you have posted? Everyone has been an attack on me.

You are the one that started it with me and the rest of your ricer wannabes here and you are the one that brought my Ferrari into it, accept responsibility for your actions and quit playing me as the big bad guy.
You meathead.

My very first post did not even address you.

My second post addressed the FACT you were WRONG. In that same post I acknowledged I preferred other Ferrrari cars over the 328GTS. That is an opinion, and to attack me personally and not address the opinion shows how little you understand your position in this stupid debate. To even admit you have a problem with others who don't care for your little F-car shows how narrow minded and touched in the head you are. I personally couldn't care less if you don't like my car- I'll be just happy enough knowing I like my car.

For what it's worth, a 328GTS, available for the mid $30Ks, IS low rent compared to pretty much any other Ferrari, new or used and that is a FACT.

You, sir, are what other marque enthusiasts (including many on this thread too) see as a typical myopic snob with an inferiority complex and I will have nothing more to do with you.

To everyone else-

I'm sorry this thread has evolved this way. Thanks for all the comments, constructive, encouraging, or undestanding. I would never imagine coming to a Porsche forum and expect such warm sentiments and mutual appreciation for something other than a Porsche- many other enthusiasts could learn a thing or two from y'all!

Rick Conrath-

GT-Rs are available via MotoRex (www.motorex.net) and RB Motoring (www.rbmotoring.com).

These are 50 state legal cars. They are EPA and DOT certified. They are individually certified by CARB for CA Smog. The DOT cert packages are approved on a per unit basis.

Currently there are approximately 70-odd GT-Rs in the US, model years ranging from 1989-2002 in different specifications. GT-Rs are not the same as a Skyline coupe... or about the same as an M3 is to a 3 series. They are hand assembled in separate production plants and are built in fairly low numbers for a production car. Under 50K units were made of the initial 6 year BNR32 chassis, under 20K units for the 3 year run of B-CNR33 chassis, and for the last 4 year run, under 30K units for the chassis- BNR34.

This is great, a real pi##ing contest.

What real is that GTR are serious cars regardless of looks and badge.

We have all seen some pretty dire mooded japanese cars with much more show than go and we have all seen some absolutely nasty trashy s##t modded Porsches and Ferraris as well.

So does that mean all P-cars and F-cars are 'ricers' as well?

Of course not.

So some or more people who own these cars what them to look morwe than they really are.....let them we know what's important to us and what isn't.

Girls! Girls! Calm down. Blimey.

Just to confuse things further - when I went to LeMans last year it was my friends Skyline that was gathering all the crowds in the campsite. It might be because Porsches are more common in Europe but a lot of it was that most of the people were Danish - and in Denmark with the %150 tax - a skyline is about as expensive a car as you can buy.

and as if that wasn't bad enough, the next day some sod in a Murcielago parks next to me. I had to do a lot of consoling to my car that night...

Now the news of our petty squabbling has reached a UK Skyline Forum. Read what they think here...

Good since I could care less about your $18k Nissan, and believe me I do not have an inferiority complex its the ricers like you that always test and antagonize me while I am in my Ferrari who are always trying to prove something.

I can afford any car I want valued under $200k, and I own them, it just shows again why you have no taste as the Ferrari 328 is regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever, actually I am glad you don't like them and prefer imports with stickers and you put them on your car for free, look around and see why everyone is laughing at you driving your car especially Women.lol

Agreed!

Now he needs all women, not just guys, to give him affirmation that he made the right choice!

Soon he'll need dogs, cats, horses... hell, the entire animal kingdom to bow to his mid '80s rebadged Fiat.
