Guess the jack-apes at the county DOT will now take me seriously since the road has catastrophically failed at this point. Excessive airport runoff allowed to free flow down the hill and cascade across the road eroding the hillside downslope and upslope our property. Was in the bad weather till midnight trying to keep up with the onslaught of mud and debris flooding our property.

Typical county government.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Woah! Looks like the complete road has been pushed to the downhill side! Landslide in the making?

This homeowner is my hero.....installing a new metal (galvalume) roof....over his existing shingles. I was on my way to a job site and saw what was happening so stopped and had a brief chat with him. This is exactly what I'm planning to do for my roof next fall/winter.
There are plenty of venders who will supply metal panels at whatever size(s), quantities, and color, you need.....delivered to your door step. Pull the permit yourself as the homeowner. He used 1x4's as furring strips - screwed into the joists with 3" deck screws. Then attach the metal panels using appropriate fasteners. My situation is similar to this fellows.....single story with relatively low sloping roof...except mine's a simple gable and his is a hip roof. My roof is 100% symmetrical like a piece of notebook paper folded down the center - and that's it. Total cost for materials should end up approx. $3K at the most. I could probably do it all myself but I will rustle up a helper. I built a 12'x30' shelter using these panels myself last year...no biggie if you have the tools and time. Anyway.....here's the pic I took of his house and the project well underway.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1484361783.JPG |
I don't know about going over the shingles with the metal, Baz.
I would have to tear off the old shingles, then proceed with the metal roof. Over a comp roof maybe. But the wood even tho it would provide some insulation value, would seem to be at risk of rot under the metal. Cheers Richard Is this taking our hobby too far? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1484392659.jpg Oops, not my photo, sorry. |

I don't often shop at retail garden centers but there's a Lowes in Port Orange that I check out when I'm in the neighborhood. The other day they had triple trunk Adonidia Palms in 3 gal. for $10.00 so I picked up a few along with a small topiary with a very well balanced habit and a narrow leaved variety of Cordyline that I will put in a pot somewhere and propagate. I plan to separate the Adonidias into singles and a couple doubles with more of a "V" positioning of the trunks. For $10, these are pretty nice liners!
